I tried to read a set of cozy mystery books, but they were not very good. The stories had lots of holes where things did not make sense. Sometimes a character would suddenly know something even though the book never explained how they figured it out. It felt like important parts of the story were missing.
The dialog was also confusing. People would say things that did not sound like real conversations. Sometimes I could not tell who was talking or why they were saying it. It might be bad writing, or maybe the books just needed better editing.
Mysteries are supposed to make you think and try to solve the puzzle. These books did the opposite. The clues did not fit together, and the endings did not feel earned. I kept waiting for things to make sense, or have a more than superficial “mystery “, but they never really did.
After a while I had to stop reading them. Instead of getting smarter or enjoying the mystery, I felt like I was getting dumber for listening to them. A good mystery should make you curious and excited to keep going. These just made me want to close the book.
Bad stories poorly written
