Publisher's Summary

Dom Harvey is a hugely popular radio DJ. He's known for his funny gags and has been described as a shock-jock. So it might come as a surprise to find out that Dom is also seriously into running - marathon running. In fact, he loves it.

This audiobook is a love story about running and about marathons especially. What got Dom into marathons? How did running save his life? And why, despite being an old fart, is he now trying to run even faster than ever before?

Dom is just a regular guy who drank too much alcohol and ate too much shitty food, then fell in love with running and turned his life around (and became a bit of a running nerd along the way).

it was ok

it takes a while for the story to get going. I like the way he describes his experiences for Tokyo and Berlin because it was relatable. At times the reader was boring and mechanical. it was half a book later before he was more relaxed and engaging. Not a bad read if you like down to earth diaries.

Narrator should have been Dom

New Zealand is proud to have Dom Harvey as one of its top radio hosts. Why not let Dom tell his story? Get real.

Gave up after 4 chapters

About to embark on my 2nd marathon I had hoped to be inspired but unfortunately this book is littered with bad language and innuendoes. Distasteful and cringeworthy.

Surprisingly Great

Don't normally go for sports biography. This is less the history of the great sportsman as an honest reflection on a great runner. Not the superstar of marathons but an ordinary joe who tries his best. His story makes it hard to put down.

Not Just for the Runners

This book gets better as it goes along I found the first few chapters hard going but I’m so pleased I stuck with it.

Inspirational

Thanks Dom for a hugely entertaining and inspiring chat, (that’s what it felt like) on running and all the ups and down most runners can relate to.

All the feels

Hooked from the first chapter, I found myself following the story as if it were my own. Felt all the disappointments and the joys in every chapter. GOLD.

Hilarious, encouraging, and honest memoir

What a great read! Great performance, also.
Yes, the story is so relatable. I could adopt the author's running experience into my running training, and my performance actually got improved! As we all know, running brings us pain, discipline, learning, freedom, and joy. The author illustrates all these elements so vividly - I could not help but laughing out loud when Dom talked about 'Code Yellow' and 'Code Brown'!
Definitely a 'Must read' book, if you are 'an average' runner, but wanting to go a little bit faster.

Loved it!

I'm just starting to get back into running and i found this book very inspiring to set myself some new goals!

Well written and from the heart with great laughs throughout it!

Couldn't help but think it would have been great to have Dom narrate the book himself as he is a radio host....

Highly recommend !

Hilarious, fun, inspiring, page turner.

This is one of the best running books I've read, and I've read quite a few. The comedy is great. The story is even better, and it's so very relatable for a runner trying to go from average, to a little bit better than average. This will be one of the books I recommend first, when anyone asks for suggestions.

Apart from falling in love with the Kiwi accent, this was a fabulous memoir with a beautiful balance of honesty, suspense and humour.

Thanks!
