Publisher's summary

A mother, a daughter and a road trip that’s about to take a hard left turn in this heartfelt and witty story about the sacrifices we make for love.

Darcy Evans is getting married. In a week. To a man who is her childhood dream come true. But a late-night confession from her best friend changes everything and before she even has time to unpack it, she must endure a road trip to the ceremony with her estranged mother, Marja. It was always the two of them against the world…until Marja ghosted Darcy three years ago. No car in the world has enough room for all of their baggage.

The drive from Austin to Chicago is nostalgic, claustrophobic, incredibly messy and exactly what both women need. As they each find themselves at a crossroads in their lives, long-held secrets are revealed—ones that reshape Darcy’s memories of the past and forever alter the future she’d recently been so certain of. She hadn’t known what a reunion with her mother might bring, but sometimes following your heart means taking a path you never planned…and finding a love you never imagined.

Fantastic read!

What a fantastic read! It took me in a direction totally different from what I had expected. It was funny and enticing, plus the narrators did an excellent job; and I couldn't wait to hit play again after having to pause to deal with daily mundanities such as working!
I have read a couple of Melissa Lenhardt's other books and must say that she certainly knows how to weave an excellent tale; she is now one of my favorite authors!

smart, funny, badass women

There’s so many reasons I love this book… Melissa Lenhardt is a great storyteller and Run Baby Run is a hilarious, thrilling, and sometimes heart rending ride. It has shades of Thelma and Louise, Bridesmaids, In Bruges, and Girls Trip with a decidedly sapphic bent.

Darcy Evans is a practical, successful travel writer. She and her best friend Chloe Parson run a website called Wander Women which is on the verge of breaking into the big time. She’s also preparing to marry Chloe’s brother Michael after reluctantly consenting to a lavishly extravagant wedding to appease Michael and his well-to-do family.

Begrudgingly, Darcy agrees to drive from Texas to Chicago with her estranged mother, Marja, the week before the wedding. Marja is a proud, hard-working single mom. She raised Darcy working as a maid for the disapproving, judgmental folks in a small Texas town. They were dirt poor but incredibly close until Marja suddenly and inexplicably ghosted Darcy 3 years ago.

The tale starts with an epic Texas road trip with an evangelical dog. There are funny women, great friends, and surprising twists and turns along the way. It’s a terrific read.

The narration is spot on. Being from the south, crappy southern accents make me cringe. Not the case here. Great work by all the narrators.
