Publisher's summary

They learned the rules, then broke them to survive.

One month after a crippling attack on the power grid, the country is still in darkness. As a new wave of violence sweeps the nation, the Ford family are soon drawn into a battle for survival with an unknown menace. Tasked with stopping the threat to protect the small town of Whitefish, Montana, Corey soon discovers a traitor is among them. Unsure of who to trust, tempers flare and accusations threaten to tear the remaining survivors apart. But when Tyler emerges after three weeks away with hope in the form of a mysterious ally, Corey and his brother are forced to undertake a dangerous mission.

What would you risk to save your community?

After Andy Ford tells his son the truth, a weight lifts from his shoulders, but the relief is short-lived as the result places a target on their backs. In order to defend what remains, he returns to Camp Olney to face Jude Lawson and the incident that destroyed their friendship. But when events take an unexpected turn and the situation spirals out of control, friendships will be tested, loyalties broken, and a terrifying twist revealed.

Will anyone survive?

In a post-apocalyptic nightmare, all bets are off as alliances form, trust breaks, and the strong struggle to survive. Will the mission be a success, or will it strip away what little humanity remains?

Rules of Darkness is Book Three in Survival Rules, a post-apocalyptic EMP thriller series that follows the Ford family and their community as they fight to survive after an EMP destroys the nation’s power grid.

Finally Jude is Gone or So We Think...

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

I listened to the first two books over the weekend and was raring to listen to this book as the story picked up pretty quick in the first book and the momentum never slowed down.

Andy is a bad ass prepper who trained his sons how to be the same. From Tyler finding out his origins and Cory trying to protect his town, everything is in chaos. The story just gets better, in my opinion, when Cory recruits his Marine brothers to help him attack the outpost and take the supplies.

After Nate escapes from the psycho; I think we might see her again. By the end of the book, Jude is gone and we also get to find out who Morning Star is and holy crap that's gonna be awesome hearing that story...

I don't want to give away everything... if you enjoy EMP, post-apocalypse, and prepping; THIS SERIES IS A MUST!!!

Rules of Darkness - needs a little light!

Rules of Darkness is the third installment in an otherwise stellar written series, as this book falls short. Unlike the others, this book seems to drag on. Having said that, however, the plot does pick up in the final few chapters. Don't worry, hope is not all lost in this book, and then there are the first two books that make up a solid reason when buying and reading\listening to the fourth installment.

Heart stopping action!

The author has a wild imagination and a hell of a way of writing a story. I found myself sucked in to this audiobook. This story makes you think about if everything goes to hell in a hand basket. This is a well written and narrated story.
The narrator does a fantastic job with the characters and the voices of each character making it easy to distinguish between the characters.

A Third Installment to the 'Survival Rules' Series

Since I adore the Jack Hunt-Miles Meili author/narrator combo, I took an opportunity to download this audiobook as a free review copy from Audiobooks Unleashed. This post is my voluntary review of it.

Book 3, 'Rules of Darkness', concentrates on the Ford family combating raiders who are stealing resources and killing those that have ventured from town to scavenge the surrounding area. Corey is assisting the police, Andy is training new fighters and Tyler is helping Allie from Olney Camp. Corey and Tyler end up targeting the same group of raiders and team up, along with some Marine buddies of Corey's. This part of the story gets somewhat convoluted and seems a little implausible.

Meanwhile, Erika is written almost completely out of the story and Nate doesn't fare too much better. Nate falls prey to almost the same fate that occurred in the last book. It would've been nice for them to have bigger roles in this installment; they're my favorite characters after Corey and Tyler.

There's still plenty of action to be had in this book. The tension that Hunt is so good at is still here. It gets bogged down with all the characters trying to out-maneuver each other (and not being smart enough to pull it off).

The Morning Star thing? My reaction was, "Soap opera tactic!". And then have it be the cliffhanger? I hate cliffhangers; total pet peeve of mine. Boo-Hiss.

Miles Meili does his usual wonderful job with narration. His performances of Hunt's books are completely suited to the writing style.

Recommended.

Secrets revealed!

Corey and Tyler, Andy and Jude. There is more political maneuvering and back-stabbing going on here than the White House Oval Office. Tyler finally finds out the truth. The community of Whitefish is in the middle of a tug of war between the raiders, Jude, and the citizens themselves. There is always the power struggle where one man or group of men desire to rule over all. How does Camp Olney fit in, and what about Morning Star? Who is Morning Star? I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Big Sky Soap

Love Father Ford survivalist backstory. Figured the Jude twist but missed the Nate/Erica switch. The whole brother/half brother, father/stepfather love/hate thing is going to be more interesting now that mommy dearest has arrived. Can't wait!

Suspense and Craziness!

I really enjoyed this book. The twists and turns and action are amazing and intriguing to say the least. The characters are well thought out and evolved. Making some you want o hug and others you wish you could interact with and knock the crap outta them! The narrator did an amazing job giving the characters life and making them really interesting and causing me to become completely submerged into the book and the characters lives. Great book and great addition to my library!

Damn it...

That ending! Damn you Jack Hunt! I seriously thought this was going to be a trilogy I now know I am wrong about that. Did NOT see that coming!
Miles does a great job of narrating. Glad to have a new favorite narrator in this genre.
I’m ready for book 4!

Part of a great series

As a standalone book I don't think this would do well but as a continuing part of an exciting series its well worth the time!

The narration is very good as well. The story involves many diverse characters and the narrator does a good job of relaying all of them in an entertaining way.
