There was no money, the family was scattered, and Lucille, who had mothered them all since she was 16, was going to be married. So the house must be sold; Lucille knew that was the only sensible things to do, but the family had other ideas.

Home they came by whatever way they could, penniless and bedraggled but with certain newfound friends who were to help them to upset Lucille's plans - all her plans for a calm, settled, and sensible life.

It’s a miracle! The Waynes of Wood Mount trilogy is now on Audible!

The Lark Shall Sing is the first of the three books about the Wayne family.
This book introduces the six siblings and tells of their return, after a year’s absence, to the family home.
Stevie Zimmerman does a wonderful job with the narration of Elizabeth Cadell’s books. Her voice brings the characters to life.

Delightful entertainment!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this book! This family has so much charm! The love interests were wonderfully written and performed. The struggles and the resolutions are so believable. I can not wait for the next book about the Wayne family to be available on Audible,

What other book might you compare The Lark Shall Sing to and why?

All Elizabeth Cadell books are fun to read- this is one of the best!

What does Stevie Zimmerman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stevie did a great job of making the many characters so very different from each other. I have read this book many times and I thought her interpretation of Lucille was much richer in character than I had in my mind.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The moment when Simon is waiting for Long John's appearance through the kitchen window. I cry every time I read this and this performance did not disappoint me- tears came again.

Any additional comments?

How soon will Blue Sky of Spring and Six Impossible Things be available? These are the next books about the Wayne family.

This author grows on you

I am beginning to really like Elizabeth Cadell. Odd thing about her books, though, is that they really do require your full attention. Since I don't always do that, particularly with audionooks, I am finding her books good the first reading and very good the second listen. I hope that Audible will consider carrying more selections by this author.

All in the Family

A delightful story about a noisy family and their family home. Lucile tries to make decisions for her brothers and sisters.

Takes One Back

The book is a gentle story, the type girls read in the fifties and sixties. Both plot and characterization are shallow, but the point isn't to challenge the reader. Sit back and enjoy a simple story from the past.
Although the narrator has a wonderful voice, the recording has an echo, which is a little irritating.

Entrancing story,great characters,beautiful read

Would you consider the audio edition of The Lark Shall Sing to be better than the print version?

I didn't read it in print but can't imagine it could measure up to the characterisation the narrator adds.

What did you like best about this story?

The colorful adventure that is both intriguing and yet comforting. Great characters and an unpredictable plot. NOT a common or garden story.

Any additional comments?

I found this book because I have listened to many of Stevie Zimmerman's narrations. This one was quite different from many of her others, but easily one of her best. A beautiful, slightly old fashioned but nonetheless touching, story of an unusual family. Can't wait for the rest of the trilogy.

A keeper!!!!!!

My sister and I loved this book. It was amusing and well written. I hope they bring out the rest of this series in audio, as well as Yellow brick road, Alice Where Art Thou and others. We like the audios because we listen to them together.
