Narrated by the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Cadell! At Edmund Brooke's insistence, his 10-year-old daughter, Vitorina, leaves the closed world of her old and strait-laced great-aunts and their Portuguese mansion - complete with chapel - and journeys to a boarding school in England. Edmund readily accepts the offer of a golfing acquaintance to act as chaperone for Tory. Tory is called upon to let down her facade of meekness and to reveal her real nature: she is shrewd, imaginative and - as the situation calls for - brave.

Perfect narrator for a perfect story
If you're an Elizabeth Cadell fan, then you already know that she writes light mystery romance. She does it effortlessly and charmingly. It's not the male/female leads that usually steal the show: it's the secondary "character" characters. In this one, it's the stepdad, the grandmother, and the uncle. Oh, and Yolanda, who has one of the most memorable scenes in the Cadell canon. Cadell also makes use of her upbringing in India in the plot.
But the narrator is the one who really burnishes this book. Pike appears to be a new reader on the scene, and it's really nice to have a male narrator for this book. His voices are well-differentiated, none are screechy or shrill, and his female voices are well done. He's excellent at the male characters, particularly love-worn-and-torn Paul and the schoolmaster.
I hope he does more. Cadell is always enjoyable, and a good reader makes her better.

Thanks for Another Cadell Deliight!
This book is filled with many of the elements that I have loved in E Cadell's books - mystery, romance rustic villages, posh country homes, boarding school, and all the great characters. don't miss it!

Another great vintage Elizabeth Cadell with romance and mystery.
Published in 1976, Game in Diamonds holds up well today, as do all of her wonderful books.
My favorite part is where Yolanda gives her performance in the school swimming pool: “Nobody who was ever present at the school indoor swimming bath ever forgot the occasion.”
I'm so pleased to see the Audible versions of all her books being published. It adds an extra dimension to them. It’s a very delightful read and is well narrated by Will Peck.
