Male voices painfully poor

I love Kyra Davis so much I am slogging through this book. The male voices are so poor I turn down the volume. With a different narrator I would have made it through. I quit and requested the book from the library to read instead I just can't handle the choppy husband voice one more second! The author's ability to create characters and have witty dialogue is so refreshingly smart. She is worth reading, but not listening, to this book.

Book Good. Audio Voice Bad.

The book itself was really entertaining, a perfect companion to my powerwalking, but the woman who read it was TERRIBLE. My advice to the author would be to find a different reader because she does the book no justice.

Interesting ups and downs that mirror life

I really enjoyed this book, probably even more than Davis's previous two. The character's struggle to deal with her hidden ambitions and attempt to manage a difficult marriage are themes many people can relate to. The book, including the ending, were compelling. I didn't like this narrator quite as much as the one for her last two books. The voices were annoying, particularly the one of Tad Showers. But I got over it because I was more interested in the book than the voice. Also, the protagonist might have seemed naive, but anyone going through a relationship with a person who has an undiagnosed mental illness (in my case, close family member) will understand how chaotic and confusing it can be, particularly when it's less probable that objectivity is a force in play. Very interesting read!

Great Story

Loved it. I think we all can relate to a story of someone who presented themselves as someone they are not. Then have to decide to let go of dysfunction and choose to live life on our own terms. The narrator is awesome.

the first several chapters seemed to go on and on. but it picked up momentum just in time 2 b ok 2 finish...

Heartening story, true to life

The reader was not the best, but still I never found her annoying. The story however, was really great. Having had two friends in similar situations (finding out they were married to someone bipolar who destroyed their finances), this story rang true, making me wonder if it was a bit autobiographical. Also true to life is how we hide our big problems from our friends, not admitting that we made a mistake in the person we married.

An engaging read...

A very engaging book from Kyra Davis. Although I found the protagonist to be a bit naive, I found myself cheering for her by the end of the book.

Happily Ever After?

This is a really good book about what happens after the honeymoon is over. I felt empathy for both characters and wish there was a sequel. I would like to know what happens next.

Good Book SoSo Narrator

I enjoyed the book well enough as I have the authors previous books. But the reader was severly lacking. I listen to a lot of audio books and there is only one reader I will avoid but after this book there will be two. You could not tell her male coworkers from her female coworkers. Other than that the story was worthwhile.
4 Stars for the book.
2 Stars for the reader.

Really difficult to listen to

I had listened to the Sophie Katz books and really enjoyed them so when this book was available with the Romance Package, I gave it a go, despite the warnings. Other reviews were not exaggerating. It is nearly impossible to listen to the narrator’s voice. Such a difficult subject approaches with muppet-like character voices. It’s nearly comical to listen to the “male” voice work through the difficulties of mental illness with a few sex scenes thrown in, all the time sounding like a stuffed up Sesame Street voice. I’m so glad it’s over!
