Lots of incorrect ‘facts’ and poor advice

As someone who has been in the coffee industry for almost 20 years I have to say that this book is full of incorrect statements and bad advice.

There is a lot of good advice in here, but for someone looking to learn more about coffee, it would be difficult to determine which is good advice and which is not, or which is true facts and which isn’t.

You can definitely get an understanding of coffee from this book, but I would take a good chunk of it with a grain of salt.

Also please, for the love of Pete, do not put your coffee in the fridge or freezer. The second you take it out the condensation that will instantly appear on the beans will destroy the flavour of the coffee and make it bitter and rancid.

Very Interesting Listen for Coffee Lovers

I have always been into coffee and am an avid coffee drinker. I listened to this while enjoying my coffee during my morning commute. I highly enjoyed the book and it offered different types of ways to make coffee and enjoy it. It has helped me to become smarter about how I enjoy coffee.

Learn more about the kickstart of your day

Having drunk coffee for a long time and found I knew little about it other than the basics of it being a plant that is harvested and processed long before I ever mess with it. The book breaks down how the coffee bean is made from being planted, harvested, processed with a wet or dry method (had no idea there was a wet method) and all of the things that follow. From there the book delves into some subjects of trade, roasting and really anything you can think of involving coffee. While I am sure this book doesn't cover all things coffee it definitely covers a lot more than I thought I would find interesting, and it was throughout.

The narration by Shannon Lynn is pretty good throughout and is read at a clear and quick pace that keeps the information being presented more entertaining that I think I would have found it by reading. I thought the whole experience was informative and entertaining. Also, it breaks down roasting your own coffee and ideas on the types/locations of the beans you might want to try. It covers everything from grinding, tasting and any sort of prep needed in the coffee making endeavor. A great book for anyone looking to learn about coffee and all the ins and outs of its growing/roasting/preparing and even tasting.

Informative

This book covers the various operations in the life cycle of coffee from growing, harvesting, roasting, grinding and making.

It is informative. In some places it skims in others goes into more depth. Really interesting material.

The narrator was good and the pace was the right speed for understanding and very clear speech.

This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.

VERY basic!

This may be a good introduction for the novice, but it was far too rudimentary for what I was looking for.

Not sure where to begin

The book, on its own, is a plethora of usable knowledge.
The reader, not so much. I don't believe I have heard so many mispronunciations of words on Audible. I reviewed from the book, itself, and an not sure how someone wouldn't be familiar with these words, especially when there are phonetic researches available.
ie: we all know that Chemex starts with a hard 'K' sound....

Waste of time and money

The book has an overall feel like it was written by a high schooler that was trying really hard to not make it obvious they got all their info from Wikipedia.
Reading some of the other reviews, it's obvious they were written by friends of the author.

Good starter book

Great for complete beginners to start orienting themselves around the basics, but realized this is better read as a regular book rather than listened to. it read at times as a bulleted list of things to consider. Still would recommend for anyone with mild curiosity or getting started with no background beyond drinking coffee. It's a quick read, so that's a plus.

Nice

It’s simple and straightforward and I like how it’s written in a tutorial style. It’s almost like it was written as an essay. But it’s very nice and concise. Might not recommend it for someone who already has a more advanced understanding of coffee.
