Publisher's summary

Back home is the best place to start over in a heart-stirring Texas romance about friendship, second chances, and small-town scandals by New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown.

Riverbend, Texas, doesn’t look like the crossroads of anywhere. But for four high school besties reuniting after twenty years, it’s a place to unpack a lot of baggage.

Risa’s headed for divorce, Mary Nell’s been kicked to the curb by her leech of a boyfriend, and Haley was just blindsided by a shocking family secret. But restless army veteran Jessica Callaway, looking to plant roots, has an idea: corral her fellow former cheerleaders and renovate an abandoned church smack-dab in the middle of three dry counties into a bar. Throw in a grill and Wade Granger—a onetime nerd turned surprisingly crush-worthy investor—and their lives are on tap for a turnaround. Amen to that.

Except for one hitch: the white-clapboard dream is causing a ruckus. With a renewed bond, hard work, and the promise of romance, Jessica and her friends aren’t backing down. For Riverbend, this is going to be a homecoming—and a scandal—to remember.

it was ok

it was a pretty good book. I just don't like when women push the idea of children not needing fathers and fathers not deserving to know their kids cause a women is hurt by his actions. not fair to the kids.

Disappointed in this book

I am usually a fan of Carolyn Brown’s work, but this book does not come up to standard. The characters are underdeveloped, with no substance. The plot is weak, without rising action, a real climax, or satisfactory resolution.

I feel that the author is drawing a line in the sand between conservative values and liberal viewpoints, and she has somehow turned conservatism into the bad guy.

I am disappointed.

Okay listen

I was disappointed in this book. I kept waiting for there to be some excitement but it mostly mocked church goer’s. I typically love Carolyn Brown, but just wasn’t feeling this book. Don’t judge the book based on me it’s has a great narrator & a wonderful author.

I was disappointed

Did Carolyn Brown really write this book? I thought it was very different. The whole attitude of the book was different.

Loyalty

Amazing story of friendship and love. I enjoyed this novel. Never had a boring moment. The narrators are also great to listen to.

Snoozer

This book was a fairytale with no real conflict. Everything works out just as expected, very predictable from beginning to end. Characters referenced getting over the past a few times but didn’t feel the true struggle of hardship. Won’t get that time back. Gave 2 stars only because I did finish it.

Sweet Story

I liked the way it ended!! And of course it’s good. Can’t go wrong with Carolyn Brown/Brittney Presley.

Just not my favorite.

Seemed slow, saccharine, and not up to usual standard. Skipped multiple chapters just to get through it, and didn't feel I'd missed anything. True devotees will likely enjoy.

Twice as nice listen!

I listened to this a second time after finishing the first listen.
Cute story line, I laughed and smirked knowingly at times - felt like I was there.
Narrator was good, this help to stay engage in the story.
