Publisher's summary

Rebecca Daniels is a down-and-out private investigator on the hunt for her daughter’s killer. The trail leads to Bright Fork, a sleepy New Hampshire town where Rebecca discovers this is no ordinary manhunt. Her investigation becomes a tangle of brutal killings, secret rituals, and terrifying visions that force Rebecca to question reality. This is more than an opportunity to take revenge on the one who tore her family to pieces. It’s a chance to confront the darkness growing inside of her and the madness that threatens to possess her entirely.

Expertly Crafted

"Rites of Extinction," though a quick listen, is a winding thriller with some delightful horror elements. It follows private investigator teetering on the edge of sanity as she searches for her daughter's killers. I instantly felt for Rebecca (and I'm sure Angel Clark's excellent performance had a lot to do with that) and wanted to see her find justice.

This book takes some serious turns so buckle in for the unexpected when you start this one! I'd recommend this to any readers who enjoy gory thrillers starring badass women.

Quick And Twisted Dark Thriller

This was one crazy ride. I really wasn’t expecting any of what was coming and I was kept on my toes the entire time. What started out like a murder mystery quickly turns to a cult style horror. I felt the story took a bit to find its stride, but once it does it is a twisted dark tale with plenty of gore. Can’t say the ending was totally satisfying but wrapped up the story well enough that I enjoyed the overall book. This was definitely a lot more than your typical revenge the life of a lost loved one story.

Rebecca is crazy, rightly so after losing her daughter. I can only imagine how that could fracture someone, turns out there might be more to what is making her question reality. I liked her and felt for her as she spiraled more and more into the occult lifestyle her daughter was wrapped up in. I really liked her focus on family and desire to revenge her daughter’s death.

The plot was quite unexpected. As soon as I thought I knew where the book was headed it took a turn and went down a different path. Really enjoyed the whole cult aspect of the story and thought the contemplation of sacrifice and rebirth within it was quite unique.

Angel Clark did a great job with the narration. She played Rebecca perfectly and you could hear the tension and emotion in her voice and she tracked down her daughter’s killer. She really pulled off all the characters perfectly, but absolutely nailed Rebecca. Clark’s ability to change tone and cadence quickly when two people are conversing really gave each their own unique voice.

Interesting Framed Story of Horror

This story starts in an interesting way, where we start after things have been going for quite a while. The main character is going on a trip to take revenge on the people who killed her daughter. Along the way she encounters horrific things in the world, but also discovers some horrors within herself such that it keeps the reader/listener on edge. And by the end you don't know where it'll go, but it's great when you get there. Highly recommended.

Rites of Extinction

This was a truly crazy book. It was certainly a roller coaster ride for me. First of all, the narration was really well done except for the unusually long pauses and odd inflections when stating who said what (he said, she said). It was distracting for me. I liked the way the book was written, but I kept losing my personal spacial awareness in the tale. I lost position in time, space, and direction at times. I hated the ending because it made me feel dirty. So as far as a horror book is concerned, mission accomplished.

This audiobook was given to me at my request for my free and unbiased review.

occult horror

“Rites of Extinction”, by Matt Serafini is my kind of horror. The novella blends small town and cult horror into a satisfying story about revenge.

I want to avoid giving away too many details about this novella. It starts out as a police procedural and takes a sharp, unexpected turn. Whoa. I got whiplash listening to this one. The story has all these small details that build up to a satisfying end. It will have the reader sitting and thinking for days. I love books that linger.

Fans of cult horror should check out this quick read.
