Publisher's Summary
A straight-shooting Silicon Valley executive reveals insider career strategies to becoming a great leader, developing your network, succeeding without wasting time, and managing trade-offs between your work and life so your life works.
Patty Azzarello became the youngest general manager at Hewlett-Packard at age 33, ran a $1 billion software business at 35, and became a CEO at 38 - all without turning into a self-centered, miserable jerk. - Do better: Set ruthless priorities, and work and lead more strategically to deal with frustrating obstacles.
- Look better: Build your credibility with the people who can help (or blacklist) you.

Excellent on every front
This is the closest you'll get to a pocket sized version of Patty in your pocket. Rewind when you need to and give yourself more time to absorb and consider how you'll apply it to your world.
This isn't just a book about how to excel at work; it's a book on how to stay sane at work when you have a lot to do and keep getting more to do. Patty's advice is specific and practical and you don't have to do it all at once - for that reason you can customize it.
I read this several years ago and wanted to re-read it before considering a new position at work, so I downloaded the audio book. It is very confidence building in that it's a sort of "skeleton key" to working on the stuff that matters at work. Apart from that, it considers all of this from the standpoint where work is a part of your life and NOT your life. It's worth a ton for that reason alone.
I don't just want to get ahead, I want to work on things that matter; things that "move the needle". I spend a bunch of time at work and I want to have something to show for it. I feel like I now have many practical strategies as well as tactical ideas on how to do that and still like my life. :)

I have been listening to this book on my drive to work. I have been in a new leadership role for just over a year and I’m still looking for ways to be better at my job and grow my role. I have found this audiobook to be so so valuable. I often have to turn it off so I can think through all of the ideas it has sparked.
I really like Patty’s delivery style (strong and determined) and she’s credible. What I really like is that it isn’t just loads of stories of clients she’s worked with and only a sprinkle of the gold that we are actually looking for. This is full of insights, useful tips and actionable advice with some self-reflective, relatable anecdotes.
I’d highly recommend this book!
