Rudyard Kipling
From Rudyard Kipling's classic The Jungle Book, Rikki Tikki Tavi is the story of a mongoose and two cobras. Taken in after being washed into the garden of a British family in India, he protects the house from the devious cobras Nag and Nagaina with help from his friends and mongoose cunning.

Any additional comments?
This audio book is the story is a story of a brave little mongoose who protects an English family in India. It was written in the early 1900's so it is not sugar coated as our Disney or children stories are today. The story is nicely presented but too realistic for me (age 65). It does add food for thought (if the mongoose destroys the cobra's eggs, why is it not fair for the cobras to eat bird eggs; if a mother bird wants to protect her babies, why shouldn't a mother cobra try to protect hers). The mongoose is described as cute and full of energy, and as I have lived with a series of ferrets (closely related to Rikki) the description is right on. This story will be enjoyed by children who are in their 'tearing wings off butterfly stage' as the killing of the snakes is vivid and well described. However, I much prefer Kipling's novels.
