Publisher's summary

Lisa Gardner's next thriller following her runaway New York Times bestseller Find Her takes her wildly popular brand of suspense to new heights.

Is he a hero?

Eight years ago, Sharlah May Nash's older brother beat their drunken father to death with a baseball bat in order to save both of their lives. Now thirteen years old, Sharlah has finally moved on. About to be adopted by retired FBI profiler Pierce Quincy, and his partner, Rainie Conner, Sharlah loves one thing best about her new family: they are all experts on monsters.

Is he a killer?

Then the call comes in. A double-murder at a local gas station, followed by reports of an armed suspect shooting his way through the wilds of Oregon. As Quincy and Rainie race to assist, they are forced to confront mounting evidence: the shooter may very well be Sharlah's older brother, Telly Ray Nash, and it appears his killing spree has only just begun.

All she knows for sure: he's back.

As the clock winds down on a massive hunt for Telly, Quincy and Rainie must answer two critical questions: Why after eight years has this young man started killing again? And what does this mean for Sharlah? Once upon a time, Sharlah's big brother saved her life. Now, she has two questions of her own: is her brother a hero, or a killer? And how much will it cost her new family before they learn the final, shattering truth? Because as Sharlah knows all too well, the biggest danger is the one standing right behind you.

As always a 5 Star Lisa Gardner book!

Really good addition to the Quincy/Connor series. I had thought that Lisa Gardner had dropped this one and was only doing the DD Warren and Tessa Leoni series now.
Anyway, this book starts out with a pretty straight forward black and white story or so you think it is. Mother addicted to drugs, father is an alcoholic and a brother who kills the parents protecting his younger sister when their father goes on a drunken rampage trying to kill them all.
Fast forward eight years and it looks like the brother is spree killing starting with his foster parents who are good to him but some piece of work! He is now 17 and his 13 year old sister is trying to find and help him. Add to the mix Quincy, Connor, a retired police dog, the sheriff, a tracker and his team and there's an awful lot going on. This sounds like it might be confusing but it's a very coherent story with lots of twists so you don't know who did what until close to the end.
The narrators did a great job.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Absolutely Fantastic!

I own 400-500 audiobooks and this is right up there with the best. I actually called out sick to work one afternoon so I could finish it. I loved everything about this book. The narration was spot on, the story - fantastic!!!! I plan on getting many more Lisa Gardner books!!

I only bought this because it showed up as a recommended title! After listening to Coban and Baldacci for months, I decided to give it a try.

I nave have a new favorite author!

Perfection!!

After 9 years Lisa Gardner releases a new novel in her FBI Profiler/Pierce Quincy & Rainie Connor series. As a fan of Gardner's police procedural series (D.D Warren, Tessa Leoni, and FBI Profiler) I've been disappointed in two of her more recent novels (Crash & Burn and Fear Nothing). She is back at her very best with Right Behind You. The background to the plot is well covered in the publisher's summary, so I will not repeat it here.

While this novel has all that you would expect from a great suspense thriller, its real strength is that it is a wonderful story of love, family, hope, and recovery from horrible beginnings. I've read or listened to all of Gardner's non-romance novels. Right Behind Her is my new favorite. One of my complaints about her novels in the past has been frequent changes of narrators. The Teri Schnaubelt and Luke Daniels pair are very, very good; I hope Gardner will keep them. In this novel the author tells most of the story from the first person perspective of some of the characters with limited use of third person narration. I doing so she makes the novel more interesting.

I highly recommend Right Behind Her.

First time Gardner reader

This is my first time reading/listening to a book by Gardner. I was unaware until the authors acknowledgments at the end that Quincy and Rainy had been existing characters. I knew deep down they had more of a story and wondered why she didn't delve into their story backgrounds further. Now I know why and plan to go backwards to hear their story, as I really enjoyed the way this book was written and told. Gardner did a superb job at making me empathetic toward children being thrust into situations beyond their control and whom are basically just along for the ride. I felt the pain and heroism of Telly instantly and made my own assumption that he was a good kid from the very first chapter told by him. Their story felt so real. Good job at making this a full on authentic and entertaining experience.

Very happy to finally have a new addition to this series

I'm so very happy to finally have a new addition to this series. Lisa Gardner has done it once again, bringing back all the characters I've grown to love and care about. I highly recommend this book and the entire series, however I recommend starting with the first in the series.

Excellent storey And performances.

I loved this story. I have some personal experience with a few of subjects brought in throughout the book, So I was very interested in how things turned out, for the children especially. I am usually able to figure out these type of stories without trying, but this one kept me guessing. The story itself is very interesting, is the boy good or evil, how about the other boy, or even the girl? The new plot, which I won't ruin for anyone (I hate when people give spoilers away in a comment), was interesting. I wish there was a little more info on the characters that was about, but I know the book can only be so long. Also I would love to see a book about The Sharla and Telley.

Great book!

What a awesome read! Can't wait to listen to it again honestly. Never get tired of her writing style and the twists and turns off the plot. I had the wrong character pegged for the bad guy... Bet you will too!

Entertained AND surprised

I was expecting this to be a typical thriller with a somewhat predictable ending. Instead, it was a "sit on the edge of my seat" kind of book, but it was also a step beyond.

The characters were slowly and thoughtfully developed: even the dog who trudges along regardless of his need to plop on the cool floor and snore the heat away.

Probably the best thing about the audible was the performance of the readers. The acting was spot-on and never overly-dramatic. The male reader took a chance with the sighs of exasperation interspersed in his monologues but managed to give great insight to the emotions of the character. I often found myself wondering if the book would have been as dramatic if I were reading print. I'm guessing the answer is "no".
