Publisher's summary

Falling in love is the sweetest revenge.

What do you do when your best friend runs off with your fiancee on your wedding day?
If you’re me, Lyon Elliot, you don’t get mad.
You get even.
Which means seducing my exbest friend’s younger brother, Miles Halloran.
The quiet one.
The man I’ve known all my life, but never paid attention to.
The one I was told to stay away from because he’s way too nice for someone like me. Maybe they’re right.
But see, this is where it gets a little more complicated.
Because the more time I spend with Miles, the more I like him.
Want him.
Now I need him and his sweet smiles in my life.
If this is still a game I’m playing...who’s fooling whom?

From Lambda Literary Award-winning author Felice Stevens comes a story of a player who never gets played, until the quiet bookstore owner gives him a prize worth winning—Love.

Rocky Road to HEA

It's a rocky road for these MC's and though Lyon starts off our tale with less than savory intentions, he does in fact redeem himself. Unique plot, a seemingly shallow character turns out to not be shallow at all, and narration is perfection. Highly recommend!

Cute.

Wishing there were some way to find out if this is part of a series. This book is good. These two were cute and have been friends since kids. Miles big brother is Lyon best friend. In the end Dan falls for Lyon’s fiancée and married her. Left Lyon at the alter to clean up their mess. Lyon’s came up with the perfect revenge. Make his little brother fall for him and drop him. Well it all goes to heck when he falls for Miles instead.

awesome storytelling

I've come to expect from Felice Stevens a host of passionate fully fleshed out characters. Who start off as unlikable but redeem themselves to be a sort of work in progress. Sweet Revenge is another lovely piece of storytelling at its best. And Kale Williams is so swoon worthy in his renditions.

Overwhelmingly Cute

the chamestry between the two leads was palpable. I particularly like that Miles was not an oblivious character like I many novels. Overall incredible book.

This book felt too much like a M/F romance...

--Warning - this review is my humble opinion and has spoilers --

I am a straight female and I do enjoy reading M/F romance...have been reading them for decades...but over time I have grown tired or have become annoyed with certain elements of the M/F romance (that was unfortunately displayed in this book) so I have started to embrace more and more M/M romance - I guess because their journey in romance is refreshing and sexy and less...feminine angst - if you will. I don't care so much that one of the main male characters was a male-hoe before he met the other male character. While I enjoy that both parties are for the most part equal, it doesn't bother me if there is one more dominant than the other (it always annoys me that the main F character either needs to be saved or she was a competent strong woman doing fine until the main M character arrives on the scene) if the main M character was a competent strong man doing fine until the other main M arrived on the scene - doesn't bother me so much. I am so tired of the M being worldly has tons of s*x while the F sits at home longing for the M watching him have s*x with OW and she stays at home turning down potential dates.

--Just a quick explanation of what I mean about what bothers me with M/F romance--

I read Felice Stevens' "Through Hell and Back" series so I had a sample of her writing style that I enjoyed so I gave "Revenge is Sweet" a try. If Miles was named Milessa and he didn't have male genitalia it could read the same as a regular mainstream M/F romance. Lyon doesn't bother me so much, I expected what I got from him - a misunderstood hero that once he found the love of his life it turned him around and made him want to be a better man - which is a little problematic on its own, but that's a beef for another day.

Miles is an adult male (that has had "lovers") but we find out that he gives his virginity to Lyon. While I understand that it does happen - I can barely tolerate the idea that a grown woman in this time period is still a virgin but a grown man? because his older male-hoe brother has been controlling and c@ck-blocking him for years?? and because secretly he has been in love with Lyon for years? (if he truly thought he didn't have a chance then what's stopping him? I can see the big brother clam-jamming his younger sister, but not a younger brother. Usually the are encouraging their younger brothers to get out there and have as much s*x as they themselves are having.

I also hated the feminine attributes applied to the adult male virgin Miles. He always seemed to have " wide eyes " when he looked at Lyon and he "blushed" at every innuendo. I couldn't really give any credit to the s*x scenes because Miles was either "whimpering" or "screaming" Lyons name. Now I have read other M/M romances where there was whimpering or crying out of the other male's name but it did not feel feminine to me. I'm not expecting both men to be Manley Musclely Men but holy hell this book missed the mark - that there is a reason straight women enjoy M/M romance - we want to escape the trappings of M/F romance for a while.

Overall I give this book a 2 star rating (Kale gets 3 stars) I love Kale Williams, but even he couldn't save this book.
