Publisher's summary

Light-skinned Selina Standish lives a life of emotional pain and torment. In 1906, at the age of eight, she is convinced by her mother, actress Lavinia Standish, the daughter of a slave, to pass as white. Although Selina yields to her mother's insistence to pass, she refuses to cut ties completely with her Negro relatives, including her twin brother, a child her mother deems too dark.

However, at age 17, in the year 1915, Selina meets wealthy Southerner Jack Cosgrove, the man of her dreams. Keeping her ancestry a secret, Selina is conflicted by Jack's negative attitude toward her race. She must determine if happiness with him could ever be a possibility, especially if she were to reveal her bloodline.

Later, a chance encounter with Pastor Tony Manning opens Selina's eyes to real love. Although he is a progressive thinker regarding race relations, Tony appears to draw the line at interracial marriage. In order to live as his wife, Selina decides, she must completely disassociate herself from all her "colored" relatives. While bound to a chain of secrecy, Selina struggles to live in honesty. How true can she be to her husband if she can never reveal the truth about herself?

A wasted life without a Loving family!

I disliked Salina ( and Lavenia) for shutting off her California family without visiting investigating or inquiring from her father about what her mother was saying knowing her mother was a big outrageous liar.
And that Salina allowed All her family to die out stating constantly how she loved them but not enough to communicate with them.

Excellent story.

I listened to all 3 stories and this book was the highlight that tied all 3 stories together. I am glad that Salina did the right thing by revealing her true ancestry first to her husband and later to her family before she died. Racial passing was an awful thing to do back in those days but I sorta understood why people did this. I am a black woman with light brown complexion and cannot pass and would not have wanted to. Daniel and Lori Taylor love for each other was genuine. Lavinia was a piece of work. But she paid for her actions in the end. Salina discovered her mother's lie when she was 17 yrs old. Once Salina became old enough, she passed herself. Thankfully once Gabriel visited her, she had to tell her husband the truth. I am glad she finally died in peace after she told her family. Excellent trilogy!

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB!!!!!

I am so thrilled that I chose to read this trilogy of books! I must say that this last installment titled Revelation kept me at the edge of my seat. I could not wait to get to the end to see how all of this would roll out! I finished this book on the 2nd day of starting it. It was well thought out and VERY believable. It is just heartbreaking that people were made to feel that they could not feel free to be who they truly were due to an ignorant society HOWEVER the ending of this book was beautiful how it ended. I was in tears. I felt the narrator did a terrific job and I would gladly listen to any other book that she narrates! The only thing that I would recommend to the producers of this audio is for the author to include a pdf with the family tree so that it is easier to keep up with the characters/generations while reading through this book. This would be extremely helpful to the listener/reader of this book. Overall, WELL DONE!! I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!!

Truth be told eventually

this was such a wonderful story throughout Generations, I tried to put myself in place of someone that would be black but passed as white and I don't know exactly what I would have did back in those days, so sad to be judged by color I hope that this book will help people bring any secrets in their families to life. we could never change our past but we can help our future by telling the truth

Deceptively Confused

The narration of this book and the other books were done wonderfully. But I absolutely hated how the author skipped wide expanses of time, so much of the storyline was a puzzle. As much time that was skipped in all 3 of the books could have been saved and just done 1 book. This was a great story but I feel a lot more could have been explained.
