Think of retiring?
Well thought out, clearly written, uncomplicated advice on how to manage your money in retirement. He constantly steers you away from complex financial schemes and warns you repeatedly that many people in the financial industry make money selling you stuff and may not have your very best interests in mind. The types of approaches he suggests are mostly simple enough that you can manage it yourself. It is fair to say his approach is somewhat conservative but the narrator firmly believes, and repeats it over and over, that clever investing schemes rarely outperform simple index funds in the long run.
Lots of good information on index funds, bonds, annuities, social security and even reverse mortgages. Compiles a list of over 80 most common retirement terms. A really good resource for someone who is not very experienced in investing and arguably a reminder about common sense for people who (think they) are. Also some nice suggestions on planning for your life in retirement.
It's the first book I read on retirement finances so plan to listen at least one or two more. Has given me a lot of confidence that it's all going to work out fine.

Great Find
Great book to keep you remind you of the importance of retirement future! It did provide some specifics regarding retirement terms but it is primarily a motivational book that contains some general information about retirement.
Like all retirement books he give you many numbers: if you put --- amount each month at 10% return it will be ------- in a number of years and he beats this into your head.
Chris talks many times about retirement not being an age, but a number you must meet to be financially comfortable.
The book goes through what you should do in your 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's. All very good advice, even though it may not be what you want to hear.
Overall, a very good book that everyone should read, and then actually do

Finally, meat with my financial potatoes!
Loved this book. I'm approaching retirement in the very near future. I can continue working if I want to change jobs, or take contract work, or just change careers, but I can also afford to just retire, too. It is a perplexing decision. I like working and I like leisure time, too. This book helps you frame your decision in terms other than financial. There is, of course, financial considerations, but the real conundrum is what will you do with your new found leisure time?
This book gives anecdotal, real world, testimonial and concrete advice on how to analyze and make a retirement decision. The truth is that just because you retire, doesn't mean you can't work, in fact the author suggests you find a purpose for your retirement which may very well mean you work at something you enjoy.
This book is a great balance to others I've read which focus on all of the "gotchas" associated with retirement like social security, savings, and health care. These are discussed in this book, but he gets you to consider that retirement is not about money. Many people with tons of money are unhappy and some who have very little money are very happy.
Pick up the book if you want to be inspired to retire. It is a very easy understanding and one I enjoyed.

I've read many retirement-focused books as that year approaches. Most are filled with platitudes ("be happy!"), cover only a narrow topic (Social Security), or do not apply to me.
This one was different. Thomas Herold gave detailed information and recommendations on every financial and medical topic I cared about. He has always provided relevant information. This book brings it all together, and much more

Love this author. A real find.
LOVE this audio book, which is not a financial planner, but a refreshing approach to retirement. Hey, it's a big step and this book addresses things that many of those slick publications based solely on money simply don't have. (Money is IMPORTANT but not EVERYTHING!) How about preparing mentally for this? What are you actually going to DO when you retire? And most important to me, how to decide WHEN is the right time.Well this book covers those things.I have decided not to wait another few years just to see my pension increase by a few measly hundred dollars when I could be making that same money doing something I actually ENJOY! I am a professional musician and artist/photographer "on the side." Well, time to give those things their proper due, and I won't wait til I'm too old to do them full-time! I NEEDED this nudge the book provides. I needed to think beyond money and focus on real LIVING! (Did I mention my job of almost 20 years is a total bore?)The book IS a bit repetitious, but after a few chapters it began to sink in...HEY! I can DO this!! I wish there were more audio books like this one.

Great for life planning.
I have now purchased my third copy of this book. I have given 2 as gifts and I have my own copy in my phone library. What I love about this audio book is that it's not about money per se for retirement - it's all the other stuff you need to think about. There is one section in particular where there is an exercise that you would go through to create what the author calls your Get-A-Life tree. It's a neat way to plan how you will be spending time in retirement or in your current life situation. The exercise is great for someone who is already retired, nearing retirement, or years away from it. It helped me to re-evaluate what I was doing with my life and make some changes that have been great for me. This is a wonderful book; well-written and entertaining.

My Future in Retirement
In my working life I facilitated/taught an off hour's retirement class for a large corporation and I would ask the class what are you going to do when you retire – always the same answer “throw the alarm clock out the window and go back to sleep”. Of course once you get through that then what?
I only wish (I’m retired) at that time I had this book because I would have used it to fill in all the empty spaces that we missed in those days.
