Weak Resolution

A curiously disappointing and meandering conclusion to a truly brilliant and original triptych. Difficult to sustain interest in an endlessly messy Part 3.

Pretty good but not as good as the first two

What made the experience of listening to Restoration the most enjoyable?

The reader was great.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The prince is a funny character.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Stillwell – was your favorite?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

In this last book the protagonist makes a few uncharacteristically unwise decisions that left me scratching my head. Those decisions seemed to drive the story to the desired conclusion the author wanted. The story got a little tiresome 3/4 of the way into it. The ending was good.

The Beloved Ending...

The first time I read this book and finished it, I cried. Now that I've listened to it for the first time, I feel only eagerness and goosebumps. This is a story after my own life, speaking deeply to my soul and who I am. This is a story I will revisit over the course of my life, in any form, 'til the day I die.

mmmm

so - I have really enjoyed this series but this last book was just... something if a disappointment. I really liked Seyone - from the beginning he was special, smart, kind, wise - but from the start in this book his wisdom, his character, his personality - everything about him turned into an Asshole. He would talk to himself about how he should trust the people in his life and then he’d just blow them off and do it his own way. He made stupid decisions that hurt everyone around him talking about how he”had“ to - to protect himself - but then he didnt protect himsef - he just made bad decisions again and again. He just became an idiot - and even though, in the last 10 pages of the book he seemed to return to himself and his values - its not enough. If this had been the Seyone who was in the first book i would not have bothered with any more of them.
But its done now - and I’m glad.

Great ending.

This was the wonderful end to a wonderful series. Totally worth listening too. Glad to have it wrapped up, unlike some other series.

Very Well Done.

Where does Restoration rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is a very difficult question to answer. I have now listened to quite a few audio books. Some I have only managed to listen to for a very short time, only a few have I managed to listen to until the end. This is one that I listened to until the end, and I did like it very much. I can't say better than that.

What did you like best about this story?
I like character driven stories, and this story had wonderful characters, well realized and vividly portrayed.

Which character – as performed by Kevin Stillwell – was your favourite?
Mr Stillwell did all of them well. If I must choose one, I would choose Seyonne.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Can You Spot The Real Demon?

Any additional comments?
I was a little apprehensive when I started listening to this series, as I had tried to listen to another of Carol Berg's series and was force to abandon it due to an appalling narrator. Kevin Stillwell gave this story a living, breathing presence. It was beautifully done, and now that I've finished this series, I'll miss Seyonne and Aleksander and all the other characters who were given life by a truly skilled narrator. I will definitely visit these characters again at some point. You're probably wondering why I have only given 4 stars for the story. As with so many of my favourite authors, Ms Berg can't seem to end a story in a way that satisfies me, but aside from that, the story was well wrought. Oh how I wish that Kevin Stillwell had been the narrator who read the "Lighthouse" duology. If that had been the case, that series too would be among my favourites.
