Publisher's summary

Being kidnapped by aliens and whisked away to another planet isn't always a bad thing . . .

Meg isn't like the other alien abduction survivors. She doesn't miss much of anything from her former life—least of all her deadbeat husband. Her Clecanian rescuers gave her a fresh start, and she plans to enjoy it. Being recognized as a mate is not on her agenda. Too bad a grumpy, possessive, and all-kinds-of-sexy alien has other plans for her . . .

Maxu never expected to find his fated mate. But he recognized Meg at first sight. Sadly, she's not as pleased with the match as he is. She's guarded in a way he doesn't entirely understand and pushes him away at every turn.

Meg can run, but she soon realizes there's nowhere to hide—not from a hunter like Maxu. But that doesn't mean she'll give in easily. If he wants a happily ever after with her, he'll have to fight for it.

Good thing he's not above playing dirty.

Contains mature themes.

I’m so invested!

I absolutely love this series and couldn’t wait for this book. Did not disappoint. Obsessed with the planet and people and plot- all of it. Stephen Dexter could read a microwave manual and I’d be just as enamored by his voice 😍 the author has such a beautiful mind to think up these places and develop the culture and characters. Love love love.

Love This Series!!

I love this series. I’ve listened to every book in this series so far, and each one is unique and interesting. The romance between each Male and Female Main Character (MC) is a stand alone story, but it also has a continuing story throughout all the books. Each couple is connected to the other couples in some way, and sometimes the other couples will either be mentioned by name or make an appearance in other books which is nice.

This particular book deals with the themes of overcoming insecurity and feelings of worthlessness coming out of a prior relationship, and learning to trust again after being hurt. I like how the author makes each character relatable with both of the MCs needing to deal with their past hurts, growing, and helping each other to change into better versions of themselves.

Also, I love the narrator in this series. Stephen Dexter brings the story to life and helps you get immersed in the world of the book. He has a great range of voices for both the male and female characters. Another thing I like about him, is how he acts out the sounds that the characters make when they talk or make noises. For example, when they’re laughing, sighing, grunting, etc… He really brings the story to life.

I can’t wait for the next book to be released as an audio book. I look forward to listening to the continuation of the stories in this world.

Anticipated excitement rewarded!

Hmmmm don't know where to start because Omg this is everything I expected and more. Yes I've read the whole series and yes I want more but there's nothing like Stephen Dexter bringing Maxu to life!
Without giving away any secrets and repeating the blurb, all I can say now is get this book, listen to it and enjoy. Can't wait for the next

A little disappointed with Maxu's story

My anticipation and expectations were not met!!! We were introduced to Maxu in the epilogue of Choosing Theo. Maxu was described as more indifferent than Theo, that he was a mercenary like Theo, but retired, he was a chronic avoider of the "husband" selection process, would actually commit crimes so he wouldn't be eligible to participate. A genuine badass. Meh... not so much. Not a bad book, but the hype of Maxu simply was not met. Again, great narration from Stephen Dexter.

Queer characters!!!!

I didn't expect the Sapphic side romance to actually go anywhere. but it's nice to be wrong, just hearing they got to have a mate bond like everyone else was so decent. (not naming names for spoiler reasons)

I hope the stories don't get swallowed up by some war plot. I've really enjoyed the small scale focus on interpersonal struggles for the characters instead. it's one of the features that actually keep me coming back to this series despite the breeding kink and strictly hetero main pairings.

Another Clecanian saga, another incredible story and performance!

Victoria Aveline is hands down my favorite author, y’all. The way she fleshes out characters and storylines and then demonstrates the characters falling madly in love and getting filthy sexy in the process is absolute fire! Stephen Dexter absolutely nails this performance— with all sorts of accents and nuances in his tone of voice, he makes this such an enjoyable listen. Cannot wait to hear Sikthand and Sophia’s story!

Worth the wait!

Loved Meg and Maxu’s story. Thought the insurgents were taken care of in Using Fejo, but either there were more than we realized or we have a new big bad. Maybe we’ll find out in Ruling Sikthand?
I love this world Victoria Aveline has created and I love that she made Stephen Dexter a part of it!
