Publisher's summary

In this pivotal prequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the heroes of the Resistance - Poe Dameron, General Leia Organa, Rey, and Finn - must fight back from the edge of oblivion.

The Resistance is in ruins. In the wake of their harrowing escape from Crait, what was once an army has been reduced to a handful of wounded heroes. Finn, Poe, Rey, Rose, Chewbacca, Leia Organa - their names are famous among the oppressed worlds they fight to liberate. But names can only get you so far, and Leia’s last desperate call for aid has gone unanswered.

From the jungles of Ryloth to the shipyards of Corellia, the shadow of the First Order looms large, and those with the bravery to face the darkness are scattered and isolated. If hope is to survive, the Resistance must journey throughout the galaxy, seeking out more leaders - including those who, in days gone by, helped a nascent rebellion topple an empire. Battles will be fought, alliances will be forged, and the Resistance will be reborn.

Wonderful story of Poe, Leia, and the Resistance

Takes place a few days after TLJ. As the title states it's about the Resistance being rebuilt. Answers a lot questions that you might have after the battle of Crait. Some really cool cameos too. The one warning I give is that this story is NOT about Rey. She is in there but mainly in the background. We will have to wait to learn more about her :)

Great Story That Really Incorporates Canon

Really enjoyed this story. It starts off a little slow, but it picks up the pace once it brings all the characters together. It's especially fun when you know about some of the characters that make appearances and situations that are referenced. Only problem I had was that I didn't enjoy Marc Thompson's take on some of the characters, specifically Leia and Poe. Given how big of a role they have in the book, it took me a while to get used to it.

Overall, it's a great addition to the canon that isn't a necessary read for The Rise of Skywalker, but it adds to how the Resistance begins to recuperate after The Last Jedi and try to restore hope and spirit in who they are.

Especially recommended for all the canon junkies who love to read every piece of canon that comes out! (Side note: it can be enjoyed even if you haven't read everything. Some of it is more clarified if you've read Bloodline, Lost Stars, Aftermath Trilogy, Poe Dameron comics, and played/watched the Battlefront 2 storyline.)

Not bad

Pretty good story, not perfect but I actually had a feeling of loss and sadness, (as I should), when one of the original trilogy characters was informed about the deaths that took place in The last Jedi ...... the author did a fantastic job expressing the pain and agony that should have been shown and felt in that movie (epic fail). The loss of legendary characters in this beloved universe deserves respect and emotion, this author understood this , much appreciated !!!!

vague storyline

At some level I hope the quality of stories improves after the last movie is released. im a fan of star wars and most of the books but this one was weak. Marc Thompson is always one point.

Decent, but no point :(

Maybe SPOILER warning?!

I got this as soon as it came out so I could see how it might lead in to Episode IX. The story was ok, and the writing is fine, and the narration is good too. My problem with this book is that it has no reason to exist. Nothing happens of any real significance in the story and the only way it leads in to the movie or anything else is token references and nods to other tiny details in the universe. The most interesting part of the book is actually the First Order Archive Officer and the insights in to his mind.

All in all the story has no real faults, but it just doesn't seem like a story that needed to be told. Just something to sell as a tie-in to the new movie.

A reunion, of sorts.

this book brings together many of the different factions of characters that you've seen on screen or red in some of the other novels, and does a great job of it. and I guess that is the purpose of it, as well. at the end of The last Jedi we see the resistance decimated to a small crew that will fit on the millennium falcon. this book helps to explain where the resistance gets some of their supporters that we know they will need if they are going to ultimately defeat the first order.

The worst Star Wars book I've listened to so far

Very disappointing as a bridge between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. Very little of consequence explained.
In book form, it's much more obvious that the three main characters are terribly underwritten and uninteresting.
Marc Thompson does a great job with his performance though. It's pretty heavily produced but in a way that works.
