Publisher's summary

Lynnwood Thatcher Windsor has lived a lot of lies and seen a lot of good men go down. But he will not stand by and watch as the world he’s built from the ground up burns to ashes before his eyes - even if he has to build an army to combat the problem he sees brewing around him.

One step at a time, he carefully lays out his plan, building layer after careful layer until everything is where he wants it to be.

Every part is impeccably played, his pawns in the perfect place, and then - she barrels into his life, totally scattering every single piece he’s set in motion.

The worst thing is, she doesn’t even realize how badly she’s messed up...until she’s roused the beast.

The day that Six Ines Broussard met Lynnwood Thatcher Windsor was the worst day of her life.

First, she has a public breakup with a man she’s not even dating. Second, she has to deal with a black-tie event that she’d rather gouge her eyes out than attend. Third, she then has to sit at a table for hours on end with the one man she despises.

Just wanting a break, she thinks she’ll lose herself for a few hours and do what she loves to do best - spend time by herself and go for a walk in the middle of nowhere, spot some birds, and get a little sun. Only, her day doesn’t go nearly as planned.

She walks right into the middle of hell. And at the center of it? Lynnwood Thatcher. The mayor. The man that she took one glance at on the night of his inauguration and dismissed as boring. A total stick in the mud.

Only, he’s not so boring shirtless, in the middle of nowhere, doing things that are very illegal.

At first, she’s appalled. Then her interest gets piqued. Stuck-up suit is hot! And he has tattoos. Oh, and let’s not forget one hell of a mouth on him!

Then, he goes and kidnaps her, and she realizes that nobody is quite as hot as you thought they were when they’re now holding you hostage.

Great Start!

I have been waiting what feels like forever for Lynn's book and I loved it. First Lynn was everything I needed him to be, and the sex in this book is so freaking hot!!!! Six was a good character but she could have used a little more development. Connor Crais is new to me and OMG I have been missing out on something amazing. Connors voice is deep and sexy and so perfect. CJ Bloom was amazing as always. This is a great start to a new series and I'm excited to continue on with this story and read about the other men.

Probably my favorite book of this author!!

I have read every single book from this author. Some were great, some were good, some were not so great and some were not good at all! And a few left me upset at how much I didn’t like a mc or two.
But this book is my favorite. Or in my top five. I love both the main characters, all the side characters and I love the story!
I’ve actually listen to conjugal visits before I listen to this book. Don’t ask me why I don’t know. I like this one much much better. It is a great start to the series!!

And narrators were awesome! CJ Bloom is my favorite female narrator and it is no different now. The other narrator, Connor Crais , holds his own and could be great without Bloom. I loved them both! They both were great for the character. A narrator can ruin a great book, and these two enhanced it! Great choices!

Lynwood and Sixx,

I loved everything about this story, including the narrators. I love a sexy male narrator. Both narrators did an excellent job with the narration. This story had a bit of mystery, lots of drama both family and criminal, has hot sexy times, and serves as the building block for the new MC series. It should be a great series and can’t wait for book 2. I have listened to this one at least 4 times before I took the time to write this review. I have a feeling, it’s going to become one of my favorites. Highly recommend.

Lynn and Six

An absolutely amazing start to a new series. We finally get Lynn’s story and boy, it it start off with a bang. Lynn finds his match in Six. This is my first time listening to Connor Crais and I have to say... swoon! He was perfect and CJ Bloom is always fantastic. This audiobook was outstanding. I enjoyed every single second of this book.

Six and Lynn

This book was really good and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a one-sitting book. Six sounds like a weird young woman but she is attracted to Lynn when she sees him even though she thinks he is a stuffed suit. Soon she learns different. Lynn is a very sexy older man who she cannot stop thinking about nor he her. The kidnapping scene was really funny, even though he lets her go. Six is a little nuts but she is funny. Lynn did things on the wrong side of the law for the right reasons. This book kind of laid the groundwork for the coming books along with how and why he pulled this MC together. I am looking forward to other books in this series. Connor Crais and CJ Bloom did a great job with the narration.

What was that?!?

Such a discombobulated bunch of words pretending to be a story.

I assume somewhere there are books that came before this and explained some things even though this is the first in series because there seems to be a lot of backstory implied but totally missing. Story points start and then fall away with no more mention…. The h and H fall in love with no explanation or build up. Bad guys conveniently die in a car accident. The.End. ….?

Thank goodness the narrators were good.

Performance was fine but story was MEH

The storyline was like something written by a high schooler. The heroine is 32 but acts 13. I could not take her seriously. The stuff she found attractive about the hero felt ridiculous and very contrived. The whole story was rushed. Little character development and the fact that this is a setup for a series didn’t help. This was my first and probably last book by this offer. Wasted credit.

so good

loved this story, especially loved sixes character she really was brilliant. I also have to say it was good to see Lyn get his story as well because we have seen a few snit bits of him in other stories
all in all a five star all round for a fabulous story that I have listened to twice now and it always gets better second time round

a confusing let down

1) plot: information overload with no background info to relay it to. imo the author was trying to build a series from information that she may have already established in other books they have written.  Since I have not read her books,  this one had me seriously confused.  It was like starting a TV show not knowing there are tons of seasons previously released that you have to watch for anything to make sense. A warning to advise people to start from the beginning would've been nice.

2) characters: vague at best. There are a ton of characters introduced who have some role to play,  but the author spent so much time introducing secondary characters who will eventually have their own story that the actual relationship between the two main characters aren't even established. How do readers become invested in characters who barely register to one another in their own story? I felt like it went from boy meets girl, they do their own thing, girl and boy meet again and they bang. Fast forward a few weeks (literally, the author speeds up the plot by indicating x weeks have passed) they are in a relationship, more plot building for the series, story ends, chuck in a hea epilogue to appease the masses. There literally was no character interaction aside from a few sex scenes between the two main people. The main characters interact more with secondaries than they do themselves.

3) narrators: CJ Bloom does good snarky, sarcastic fems and her narrations tend to be pretty good so I gave this book a go from start to finish even though I wanted to give up. Connor Crais is a new one to me, but his voice is alright, it fits the gruff alpha, but this lackluster story and the lack of character traits/development did not help him bring out any personality for "Lynn". I feel bad for good narrators when books are just poorly written.

Don't waste your credit. if you want steam, you're better off looking elsewhere. if you want a good story with an hea, it won't be found here eventhough there is a hea. I don't rate or review often, but I had to say something in hopes of saving someone else the hassle of returning. if this author has hardcore fans who love her books,  that's awesome.  They may have been the ones who have read her stuff from the beginning who have more bg info to go off of,  but as a newbie, I was left wanting.

A strong start to a series.

i just really enjoy listening to these stories. they all join up and that is exactly why I keep on listening. I love how strong Lyn is in this story and what he has begun. the only part I didn't like about this was when the male was speaking for the female at times it kinda lost me.

not really worth credit

kind of weird. I understand setting up plotlines for future books, and that was kind of good, but for most part found lacking in details that would have hung things together more, including relationship development. too short a book to give that relationship the details it needed for it to make more sense, and often felt like things were missing. narrators were pretty good, though female narrators version of Lynn did coexist well with male narrators voice, so ended up feeling like two different men.
