Publisher's summary

Fifteen years after the release of the first Mediator novel, number-one New York Times best-selling author Meg Cabot returns with a deliciously sexy new entry to a fan-favorite series. Suze Simon - all grown up and engaged to her once-ghostly soul mate - faces a vengeful spirit and an old enemy bent on ending Suze's wedded bliss before it begins.

You can take the boy out of the darkness.

But you can't take the darkness out of the boy.

All Susannah Simon wants is to make a good impression at her first job since graduating from college (and since becoming engaged to Dr. Jesse de Silva).

But when she's hired as a guidance counselor at her alma mater, she stumbles across a decade-old murder, and soon ancient history isn't all that's coming back to haunt her. Old ghosts as well as new ones are coming out of the woodwork, some to test her, some to vex her, and it isn't only because she's a mediator gifted with second sight.

From a sophomore haunted by the murderous specter of a child to ghosts of a very different kind - including Paul Slater, Suze's ex, who shows up to make a bargain Suze is certain must have come from the devil himself - Suze isn't sure she'll make it through the semester, let alone to her wedding night.

Suze is used to striking first and asking questions later. But what happens when ghosts from her past - including one she found nearly impossible to resist - strike first?

What happens when old ghosts come back to haunt you?

If you're a mediator, you might have to kick a little ass.

Lew-chee-ah VS Lew-see-ah

I loved this series as a teen. Nearly 15 years later it made me super sentimental and reminded me of becoming a working adult. The story was relevant and relatable to what I feel Suzanna & crew would be experiencing today. I appreciate the narrative, but the male voices are unbearable. Often the names or dialects to what the characters would have sounded like were off putting or over dramatic. I wish the producers would have paid more attention to details or things like that. Lol Jesse’s “accent” had me and my boyfriend rolling at times. My impression is pretty hilarious ;D

Mediator Fan

I've read the mediator books before; back when I was in middle school, and I recently discovered this book in my late 20s. This book made me feel like I was watching my best friend handle life. I'm hoping there will be more books.

Thank you Meg Cabot!

First of all, I'd listen to anything read by Johanna Parker. She is an excellent narrator.
I love this series. I thought it was over and was pleasantly surprised to see two new ones in the series.
The original books were great but written for teens. So I was happy that the story picked up later in the characters adult lives. It was funny, sexy and kept my interest. The characters are great. I hope there are going to be more books from this series to come.

I love this series.

The author is great at reading stories about ghosts and humans. I have listened to the entire series and was always wondering how would end but I hope there is more to come.

Susannah Simon is all grown up...

I loved the first 6 Mediator novels, so I was excited for a new one in the series. Overall I really enjoyed the story and getting a "where are they now" type recap woven throughout.

I was a bit disappointed in the book, however, because it moves out of the realm of YA and into adult fiction instead. It has quite a bit of sexual overtones as well as adult language and themes that were not present in the first 6 books of the series. I'm not totally against that kind of content, but it just didn't fit with the rest of the series.

What I really disliked about the book though is how obsessed Susannah is with getting in Jesse's pants. She essentially makes fun of him and pressures him to put aside his beliefs because she doesn't share them. He tells her he wants to wait until they are married because he respects her and his faith, and she disrespects him by acting like his beliefs are silly and antiquated. Pressuring someone into doing something they've made very clear that they are not comfortable with is wrong regardless of whether you agree with their reasoning.

Great story as always

Love the Mediator books! Been reading them since they first came out. This is a great ending to an excellent series. Though, I did struggle with the narration. Wasn't at all how I imagined the characters. My suggestion is to listen to a clip before buying this audibook.

Over the top, unbelievable characters.

I read the previous books in this series, but I couldn't get through the first 2 chapters of this one. The character, Paul Slater, was very unbelievable in the previous books, but the storyline was interesting enough that I could finish the book. In this book he is so over the top of believable that I can't stand to listen to it. All of the bad guys in The Mediator stories have been beyond believable, but Meg Cabot pushed this character too far and should not have revisited him. Johanna Parker has been one of my favorite performers, but even a great narrator can only do so much with bad writing and unbelievable characters.

Mediator fans will love adult sequel

I was so thrilled to find out my favorite teen series was getting an adult sequel! My only concern was that it had been years since I had read the series and wasn't confident I'd remember everything that had happened. No worries. Cabot did a good job of reminding me of crucial events while keeping me entertained. Made me very nestolgic.

Overall great ending to a fun series!

I was so excited when I found out Meg Cabot had released another book in the mediator series. I really enjoyed the story itself and thought it was a great ending to the series. I read all the books through out high school and was obsessed with them! I had read this book over the summer and decided to go ahead and try the audiobook too.
While I really liked the other books that Johanna Parker narrated for this series I was a tad bit disappointed in this narration. The main character Suze Simon sounded a lot more whiney in this audiobook compared to the previous ones Johanna narrated. There were times where it made me not like her character as much as I used to and considered not finishing the story. But what really bothered me was how Johanna pronounced the name Lucia. She pronounced it so it sounded like Luchia instead of LU-SEA-A. Growing up in a latin community I NEVER heard the name pronounced with an H. Weird! Other than that I really enjoyed the conclusion to the series!

Little things that I noticed

I think that this book certainly ties everything together and has a very rewarding ending. It’s especially fantastic to read about these characters in their mid twenties when you loved the books as a teen.

I just noticed few things about characters that I found odd:
- Paul is cartoonishly evil for no reason. I think that it’s a big downfall for his character to essentially just revolve around Suze and try to split her up with Jesse. This could have made sense in high school, but at this point, it’s been years. If his obsession was ever explained, maybe it would make more sense?
- Jesse wouldn’t be dumb enough to want to actually murder someone (the child photographer) in cold blood and risk his entire future with Suze. He’s got a temper but he is not a murderer lol
- Why is Suze swearing so much all of a sudden? Would make more sense if she sweared at all in the past. And why is she wearing leggings with a skirt
- Ghost mediator game is dumb and I do not understand why it’s a thing in the book. You dont have to pair everyone at the wedding, especially a character from 3rd book, Jack
- But again, character of Paul was never fantastic but now it’s destroyed
- Also don’t really like the fact that Suze lies to Jesse so much, I dont think it could be blamed only on Paul. I wanted to see this duo as a pair more, solving ghost related issues
- What Suze does to a fully alive child abuser is very unexpected because so far she only dealt in this manner with dead people, and well, they were already dead. The fact that he kills himself and she has no reaction is also pretty strange
- Oh, and the fact that she drugs Paul. I understand that he had been blackmailing her, but it’s a bit extreme? He had always blackmailed her in some way, and it’s more enjoyable to watch her outsmart him without using force, as she does later using the triplets argument. She could have done that in the first place? Also just tipping police off about sex predator could have been enough, she didn’t have to pill a gun on him?
Yeah that’s it.

Great series but disappointing final book

Whilst I am so happy to catch up with the characters later on in their lives (and my own!) and generally enjoyed the story and its conclusion of the series; the characters - Suze, Jesse and Paul just weren’t believable anymore. To be honest it didn’t feel like Meg Cabot wrote this one, it was really poor quality. Often the details felt wrong/off, especially regarding Paul and Jesse and some of the ways they go about things.
Also the narrator was whiny, which doesn’t help portray non-whiny characters and just made it hard to listen to.

Good final book in the series

i am sad to see this is the final book. Even though i am an older person i enjoyed the whole series. The narrator did each character well. the story line was great and followed from teenager to young adult. i loved Suze and Jessie, also the triplets, it would be great tobhave a short story of them and their naughty antics.

Excited about the novel and absolutely love it!

I remember reading the mediator series back in high school and to listen to this audiobook many years later is not only exciting but creates so much nostalgia. Meg Cabot beautifully connected younger Suze’s life with older Suze’s life. The narration was lovely and easy to follow, never boring but always carrying the listener along. Definitely worth the buy!!! I absolutely love it!
