About this listen
How do you define beauty? Do notions of beauty inspire your spiritual life?
Vastly different cultural definitions of beauty may lead us to question what true beauty is and how those worldly definitions compare to God's definition. However, the real question is, do you let beauty define your spiritual life? Ideas of beauty and spirituality have always been intertwined. In Rejoicing in the Works of the Lord: The Spirituality of Beauty, Sr. Mary Beth Ingham, CSJ, will help you explore the connections between beauty and spirituality by presenting various views of beauty from the Bible and great Medieval Christian thinkers.
This 12-lecture program develops the theme of beauty and its important role in any authentic spiritual journey. Rejoicing in the Works of the Lord: The Spirituality of Beauty is based in part upon the monograph by Sr. Ingham entitled Rejoicing in the Works of the Lord: Beauty in the Franciscan Tradition (Franciscan Institute Publications, 2009).
After an introduction that points to the variety of spiritual approaches that relate to beauty, the focus of Rejoicing in the Works of the Lord: The Spirituality of Beauty turns more specifically to medieval voices. Sr. Ingham will guide you through the Western philosophical and spiritual tradition of interpreting beauty using as examples the views of Plato, Plotinus, and Ambrose of Milan.
More than a superficial opinion on physical beauty, Rejoicing in the Works of the Lord: The Spirituality of Beauty will inspire you to open your eyes to the many visions of beauty and, most importantly, to open your heart to the spirituality of beauty.

On each step of the journey, he explores a new dimension of our relationship with God. Bonaventure presents us with a mystical theology, leading us step by step from reflection on the world around us, through reflection on our inner world as human beings, toward the world above us, the divine life of the Holy Trinity.

Story
No other institution, except possibly the papacy, has more greatly influenced the church and the larger history of the Western world than the ecumenical council. Most of us, however, know little about it. This course is designed to take you through the fascinating history of the ecumenical (church-wide) council, from its first appearance in Nicaea (325) through Vatican Council II (1962-1965). This 12-part audio series explores the deep issues of faith and the sometimes curious issues of clerical behavior with which the councils dealt.

Story
The way to perfection is simple - to unite one’s will with God’s, putting into action the prayer “Thy will be done". In this precious short work, Uniformity with God's Will, St. Alphonsus Liguori explains the importance of conforming one’s will to God’s and how to do so; how God is glorified by our resignation to his will even more than by our acts; how to gain peace of mind and serenity by trusting in God, accepting what he wills for our lives, and following his commands.
