Publisher's summary

The #1 Wall Street Journal bestseller that People Magazine calls "a poignant, addictive read."

From #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us comes a novel about family, first love, grief, and betrayal that will touch the hearts of both mothers and daughters.

Morgan Grant and her sixteen-year-old daughter, Clara, would like nothing more than to be nothing alike.

Morgan is determined to prevent her daughter from making the same mistakes she did. By getting pregnant and married way too young, Morgan put her own dreams on hold. Clara doesn't want to follow in her mother's footsteps. Her predictable mother doesn't have a spontaneous bone in her body.

With warring personalities and conflicting goals, Morgan and Clara find it increasingly difficult to coexist. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan's husband, Clara's father, and the family anchor. But that peace is shattered when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident. The heartbreaking and long-lasting consequences will reach far beyond just Morgan and Clara.

While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she's been forbidden to see. With each passing day, new secrets, resentment, and misunderstandings make mother and daughter fall further apart. So far apart, it might be impossible for them to ever fall back together.

I didn’t know it was possible to have a crush on a grandpa...

Yet here I am. My favorite character was Gramps but of course, in Colleen Hoover fashion, all of her characters were all so believable and lovable. Loved this.

A near perfect read

The narrator of the mom, Morgan, was absolutely the wrong pick. The narrator of the daughter, Clara, was a perfect fit. A different narrator for mom would’ve made this a home run for them. I do struggle with CoHo writing style, primarily in the beginning of her novels when I feel she uses the same ways to express herself over and over, but by about 30% of the way in, it had a turn I didn’t expect and I was invested. I felt the grief as if I was Morgan myself. A beautiful story of grief, selflessness, forgiveness, and finding one’s self.

Fell in Love

This is one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. I fell in love with the story and the characters. I loved the back and forth between characters. I have already been recommending this book to others.

Heartbreak and Healing

I just finished this audiobook. When it first started I wasn't sure about the narrator for Morgan but I got used to it. I wasn't big on the teen sex so I just fast forwarded through it. This book had a lot of heartbreak but all of our hearts were put back together in the end. I'm glad that the bind between mom and daughter was mended. Good book and I enjoyed it.

Damn it, Colleen.

Damn it, Colleen. You hit me right in the feels with this one.

I have been salivating over this book since its announcement. For months and MONTHS I’ve been counting the days. But, I refused to give myself anything, not even the synopsis. I went in completely blind to what this was about and I LOVED THAT.

So I won’t ruin this for anyone with spoilers cause I think it’s better that way. But, I guarantee it will chew on your heart and spit it out. Safe journey. 😉

What a book!

My heart is so full after having read this book. From the patience of Miller to the strength of Morgan, I am just in love with this book. It really tugs at your heart strings as you navigate the devastating circumstances of the loss, hurt and love overflowing front its pages. I dare you not to cry. Collen Hoover, this was simply beautiful.

Predictable but Great

Completely predictable and yet I still enjoyed it. A typical chick-lit book with good narration.

Narrator for Morgan is AWFUL but nice easy listen

The narrator for Morgan sounds like an actual robot. So bad I almost stopped listening. The voice for Clara was fine. The story itself is an easy listen and good enough. Would have been much better to read in paper though rather than listen to half the narration.
