Publisher's Summary

As part of Hell Squad, former Coalition Navy SEAL Reed MacKinnon fights for humanity's freedom from the alien invaders. He also fights for his brown-eyed girl - the woman he rescued from the aliens' secret laboratory. He admires her quiet strength and will to survive, not to mention her elfin looks and curvy body...but he knows he has to keep his distance. She's nowhere near ready for what he has to offer and he'll protect her from everything, even his own powerful desires.

Energy scientist Natalya Vasin has lived through hell. Still struggling after her captivity, scarred by the aliens' experimentation, all she wants is to be normal again...and she wants Reed MacKinnon. But the rugged soldier is holding back, treating her like glass, and she won't accept that from anybody.

As Reed and Natalya wage a sensual battle of desires, they also work together to decipher a mysterious alien energy cube. Hell Squad needs Natalya's expertise and they need her to go back into alien territory to use it. But on a mission to destroy an alien outpost, secrets are uncovered - of what the raptors really did to Natalya. Secrets that mean the future she wants with Reed is just an impossible dream.

I Love this series!

The story just keeps getting better and better. I love this series and I have to say it is definitely worth the listen. The story is well written and narrated. It has action, suspense, intrigue, adventure and Hot Romance. The series is set in the future with a United coalition. It author does a fabulous job with the way she writes a story. The narrator’s do a fabulous job with the characters and voices of each. I think I have found two more narrator’s to add to my list of favorite. The narrator’s bring the characters to life.

Short and sweet

This entire series is formulaic however the action and the connection of the characters means that even though it’s predictable from beginning to end, it’s also quite enjoyable. The narrators are good as well. I’m giving it a four for consistency, good action, sweet romance and hot sex.

Fun, Short Story

I've really liked this series and the different play on each couple. This is the first couple with someone whose been "altered" by the enemy. Fun to see bad ass soldier and geeky scientist couple. Again, love Jeffrey Kafer as a narrator but Samantha Cook just doesn't do it for me. She is just reading with exaggerated pauses and her "male" voice is just nowhere near close to making me not cringe everytime I hear it.

Action Packed

The narrators did a good job. I'm enjoying this series and I like the each book is about a different couple. Each book also has a specific mission within this action packed series with a continuation story arc.

Wow! The adventure continues!

If you’ve read Hell Squad series, you won’t be disappointed with Reed. As always, Anna Hackett delivers a fresh, interesting, action packed romance filled to the brim with edge of your seat scenes that leave you breathless. A note about the Audible version: if you’re new to Hell Squad it May not matter much, but the accents are either missing or not quite right. Natalia is supposed to have a slight Russian accent. Sometimes there is an accent (although it doesn’t really sound Russian) , sometimes it sounds like it’s missing. Shaw and Cruz also are supposed to have accents and they do not in this Audible version. However, I gave it 4 stars because the inflections and emotions come through loud and clear- especially Samantha Cook - like you’re right there in the midst of their world.

Nothing unique about this Same story different characters

This book sounds similar to others in this series.Traumatized woman trying to get over her captivity. She must go into enemy territory again because she is the only one that can save the day. Alpha male doesn't want her to go. Of course she gets in trouble the alpha male must save her ... as I said same story different book title. Not a bad book is overplayed

Hell squad #4

Reed is the fourth installment in the Hell Sqad series and it is just as good as the rest!

In this one, we learn more about the Gizzida's technology and crafts...and even another Gizzida monster.

I loved reading about how Reed, a former Navy SEAL turned member of Hell Squad, and Natalya, a rescued energy scientist, interact. They both seem to feel the attraction but have their own reasons for holding back. It was quite nice to see how this whole dynamic played out. Will Reed get over his need to treat her like she's fragile, and if he does, will Natalya allow him in-escpecially after she learns more about her time being held by the Gizzida?

I know, and can't wait to get started on the next book to learn even more.

Good Series

BOOK REVIEW.....
Reed and Natalya were not my favorite couple. At first I was not a fan of Natalya. She seemed weak. However by the end of the book I changed my views on her. Reed is a good character. I do wish that more was written of his background and who he is. The over all story was good and the part about the heart was a good twist.

I would recommend this book and series to anyone looking for a good alien story to read.

NARRATOR REVIEW.......

My first taste of Hell Squad, but I loved it so mu

Reviewed by SFF Dragon* Way back in the mists of memory, this book was my first taste of Hell Squad, but I loved it so much, I went back for the previous books and have actually read the entire series. Now, suffering from varying problems with my eyes, I decided to give audio books a chance. I've mostly avoided them in the past because the narrators left a lot to be desired and generally ruined the books. Taking the literary equivalent of a nice, crisp, juicy salad with zing and turning it into something akin to a month-old limp lettuce leaf. I'm overjoyed to say that the two who narrate this series, Jeffrey Kafer and Samantha Cook are incredibly good, truly the exception rather than the rule. They managed to maintain the gritty fight for survival action adventure nature of the book and I highly recommend it to any lover of all-action, alien invasion sci-fi wrapped in a little romance with a few steamy bits for added spice. But, as this is a series with each story following on from the one before and having the start of the next story somewhere in the last chapter or two, I do suggest that you start from the first book, 'Marcus', and then listen to them in order. It'll be worth it and you get the survivors' story from the beginning-ish. The series is set around Sydney, the capital of the United Coalition of former Commonwealth nations and the USA, and actually begins about six months after an alien invasion which decimated the planet and killed billions in the first wave of the attack. 'Reed', the fourth book in the 'Hell Squad' series by Anna Hackett, one of my all-time favourite authors, wasn't the first book I'd read by her, but it was the first in the 'Hell Squad' series and it made me really wish I'd read the first three, not because I felt like I was missing anything, because I really wasn't, but because it's a really great book and I wanted more. Like all her books, Anna Hackett has included enough of a recap and background that you get the jist of what's going on, and it can be read/listened to as a stand alone, but you'd be depriving yourself of some seriously good books, every single one a 5 star plus read/listen. Amidst all the shooting and battles with the reptilian aliens, Hell Squad 4 tells the story of the romance between Reed MacKinnon, a former United Coalition Navy SEAL who was on leave in Australia when the aliens attacked, and is now a member of Hell Squad, and Dr Natalya Vasin, a world renowned energy scientist. A genius who was captured by the Raptors, tortured and experimented on for months, and finally rescued by Hell Squad. But it was Reed who carried her out and Reed she clung to, trusting him to keep her safe. A job he's thrown himself into wholeheartedly. He wants Natalya in the worst way, but he wants to protect her and keep her safe more. She wants her life, her confidence, her 'normal', back, and she wants Reed. But haunted by the memory of his friend Jo and her loss of self to a man who wore her down, followed by her suicide, he can't hear what Natalya is telling him. All he can hear is himself saying she needs to heal, she's not ready, he can wait. It takes one well chosen sentence by Claudia, another member of Hell Squad, to knock the bottom out of his arrogance and make him question his perspective. No more spoilers, you'll just have to read/listen to the book. This action packed sci-fi romance has everything you could want. Alien invasion, reptillian monsters galore, the rounding up and subjugation of the human population, hybrids, survivors fighting back, a romance to enjoy and lots of fighting. It is a war after-all. 5 brilliantly well earned stars.
