Publisher's summary

Those monsters that kept you up at night as a child, the ones that made you pull the covers up to your chin while you stared into the dark corners and saw shadows move, or pulled the blankets over your head and imagined creatures inching across your bedroom.... Well, they’re real.

The Organization, as it’s called, is tasked with keeping the nightmares of myth and legend from invading the public eye. The group must be kept a secret along with the fact that the creatures exist. As civilization expands its boundaries, that undertaking becomes more difficult. A very few are selected to stand on the lines between humankind and the horrors lurking in the dark recesses of the world.

Follow Jack Walker and Red Team as they’re pulled into the shadows to combat creatures that once kept them awake at night.

Jack still has it!

Jack Walker is back in action although in an alternate reality. After his team is attacked and killed by creatures he once believed were myth, he is recruited by The Orginazation (possible spoilers), a government group that does not exist but is tasked to control "infestations" of creatures that are very real yet mankind believes to be myths, stories that are told to frighten children. If you are a John O'Brien fan of his A NEW WORLD series you will be pleased to know that Red Team consists of those same members, each recruited because of their encounter with a different creature of myth, for the most part also being the lone survivors of attacks on their teams. After extensive training they are tasked with returning back to the location where Jack lost his team to remove the same pack of creatures that Jack barely survived. His former team were good but did not know what they faced, this time Jack's new team is fully aware of what they will be going up against, but even armed with that knowledge might not be enough to take them down.
I read the book but listening to it is like discovering an old friend expecially when you hear the banter between them. Mark Gagliardi captures the essence of this new-old team perfectly once again.
Mr. O'Brien has the beginning of a great new series and I am really looking forward to what else Jack and Red team are going to face.

id like to give it more. but its just bad.

the biggest issue is this is written in first person present tense narrative, which just sounds horrible. it sounds like some bro douche telling this totally awesome story that totally happened... but didnt. it doesnt help the narrator reads in this chirpy monotone, even when describing people get killed he sounds chirpy and upbeat. then mix in all the characters are given the same voice and no real personality or indication whos talking... this just comes out as a tepid mess.

Jack meets Red Team!

Red Team is similar in structure and purpose to Jonathan Maberry’s Joe Ledger and the Department of Military Sciences team. Although I prefer Maberry and Ray Porter to almost anyone else, Red Team did deliver a decent performance. A bit of a flashback on how Jack met and joined Red Team. We find Jack and company dealing with the things that go bump in the night. Good characters, plenty of action and a decent story. What else could you want?

Thank you Thank you John!

Jack's backkkkkkk! What a great start to a new series. It was like family coming home after a long separation ! It seems that we are getting set up for a wild ride in the future. Another apocalypse perhaps? Can't wait!

Exciting and full of surprise

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to any friend. It is a great story, with lots of excitement and is very well written. The writer and narrator are a perfect combination and you can build the scene as if you were watching a movie, the details are that good.

What other book might you compare Red Team: Strigoi to and why?

I can only compare this with John's Night Runner tales, which are just as good, and I am a big fan. The stories are told from a military perspective, and include lots of facts. The writer did his research and has a lot of personal knowledge of the subjects he is writing about.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite scene was the dinner with the Strigoi. I didn't know what to expect, and I can only imagine that how that scene would be played in the movie, and the writer can put you there, in the seat next to him.

If you could take any character from Red Team: Strigoi out to dinner, who would it be and why?

If I could take one character from Red Team: Strigoi to dinner, it would probably be McCafferty. Jack and Gregory both seem to be amazed by her, I think she would have some great stories to tell, she seems really down to earth, and I find other strong women inspirational.

Another Jack

Was looking for another Jack story after the ending of the previous book
Not as good as expected, to much prelude not much action. Felt like the whole book was an introduction for future books.
Narration was excellent.
Looking forward for the next book.

Fantastic and frightening!

Any additional comments?

Another scary as hell book from John O'Brien. It was fantastic to read about Read Team, having completed the New World series. I missed Jack and Red Team, and am elated to read about their adventures pre Night Runner breakout. Highly recommended!

A story told so many times, but new

This is an age old story about Vampires. However, these guys never met our hero Jack before and things get real interesting. Besides the twists and some unfinished mysteries that I’m sure will be delved into in future books, the details and questions about vampires are thoroughly investigated and this author has no fear of explaining as logical as one can get the creatures of “the dark”.

I wonder if Jack makes a return from some clues in this story line that you must read to understand why I ponder. I think it’s a brilliant way to continue another story line (being vague on purpose) based upon this adventure.

Excellent job and major thanks to John O’Brien for continuing his writing and letting us get to know better our heroes from the other story. Also meeting new ones as well!

Jack is back

I thought after A New World that Jack couldn’t get any cooler then BOOM here he is back in the saddle and laying his enemies to waste. If you loved A New World then Red Team is a must
