There were shadows I was running from. Ones that haunted and taunted. Ones that made it so I had no choice but to disappear.

I’d spent years hiding from the world. My little island haven, the only assurance of safety.

It all changed the moment he showed up at my door. The hint of pain in his eyes told me that something haunted him, too. And I couldn’t help but be drawn closer.

But finding the person I needed most came with risks I never expected. And when our ghosts find us again, neither of us may make it out this time.

Catherine Cowles does it again! Every book in this series is fantastic! This story has all the emotions and feels with Brody and Shay. They are both running from something in their past and it was great seeing them trust each other to begin and build their wonderful relationship together. I loved seeing the friends from the other books in this story. They always just make the family larger and it's one of the things I love most about Catherine's books. I loved Sebastian's and Ava's narration, as they are always great! Their voices were perfect for Shay and Brody and really made the story come to life. As with all Catherine's books, I wish the story didn't end! I totally loved this book and it is a must listen!

5+⭐ Romantic Suspense!

Shay and Brody all the feelz.

Shay is hiding on the island from her past and the new owner might threaten her hideaway. So she does all she can to make sure that she is invaluable to him. But she need not worry about that because Brody not only needs the hideaway himself but see the same fear in Shay.

Their chemistry is palpable, and they become fast friends that turns into more. They are there for each other.

I really enjoyed it. I will say this whole series being as its a small town makes me wonder how many bad guys are around. I know this one followed her there but it make you wonder. ;)

I loved the narration.

This story pulled me in from the beginning and I couldn’t stop listening. “Reckless Refuge” is a thrilling, emotional, and romantic addition to the “Wrecked” series.

Ever since her parents were murdered by her brother, Shay McCabe has been safely hiding out on a privately owned island as the caretaker. She doesn’t get close to anyone in fear that her brother will find out where she is. But when the island is bought by a new person, she fears for her job. Brody James is an artist and is in need of a change. After a psychopath used his art as inspiration for his murders, he hasn’t been able to create anything new. But a fresh start in the Pacific Northwest is what he needs. Shay is polite but keeps her distance from Brody when he moves on to the island. But as they spend time together, a connection forms. And when it’s clear Shay’s life is in danger, Brody vows to protect her.

I loved the little glimpses we got of Shay from the previous book and I was happy her story was next. Her backstory shocked and broke my heart at the same time. But underneath that was a survivor and a strong woman. Brody was swoony from the beginning and that only grew as the book went on. The horrors that he went through with his art being used was so terrible. Despite that, he still had the need to be creative. Brody was so patient with Shay and let her work through her feelings without making her feel like she was invalid in what she felt. They had a slow burn up to revealing their feelings. I loved the connection they formed and the chemistry between them was great. Them being together allowed Shay to open up and become friends with everyone else in the series. The last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat as all the action happened and kept me in suspense as it all went down. I loved the ending and can’t wait to start Hunter’s book next.

Ava Erickson and Sebastian York were simply amazing as Shay and Brody. Ava’s narration was passionate and emotional. I loved her as Shay. Sebastian was the perfect choice for Brody. His narration was caring and protective like Brody.

Thrilling, emotional and romantic!

Just when I think I have a favorite book of a series, Catherine Cowles goes and ups the game with a great story full of flawed and broken characters that are looking for some sort of normal. And in that, possibly finding happiness.

Reckless Refuge is the fourth book in the Wrecked series and I wasn't sure who this story was going to be about. But we are basically introduced to two new characters that end up living together on an island outside of Anchor. Shay has been the island care taker when the current owners sell to someone that no one is familiar with. While that scares Shay since she is hiding from a past that literally broke her and her family apart, she wants to be able to keep her job since this is the only place she has felt safe in years.

Brody is an artist that comes from NYC. He made a name for himself there, but when something horrific took away his love of his art, he feels like he must make a drastic move and basically run away to a secluded island across the US that he purchases to hopefully bring back his creativity and live peacefully.

The forced proximity situation between employer and employee was perfect for Shay and Brody's situation. Both of these people had been haunted by pasts that they would rather leave behind and that had their souls calling to one another. Their attraction was immediate, but I loved watching their trust and friendship grow over time. It wasn't easy, especially for Shay to open up, but the older Brody made it comfortable and put her at ease. SO much so, that she opened up to more people. And those people happened to be the previous characters we met in the first three books of the Wrecked series. I loved not only watching a relationship evolve between 2 new characters, but also getting to visit past characters that I fell in love with.

And no Cowles book would be complete without some sort of suspense, and boy was this one a bit more dark. From Shay's past and what she was hiding from to Brody's past that seemed to follow him, we got some murder and suspense brought to the doorsteps of these small islands in Washington state. That heightened every part of the emotional aspect of this story and had me afraid for Brody and Shay and how their happiness would be achieved.

I absolutely loved this book from beginning to end. There was no lull and the pacing was perfect. The suspense and secrets were woven into the romance seamlessly and I literally could not put this book down. Not only was the story great, but if you listen to the audio, Ava Erickson and Sebastian York did a tremendous job of bringing each emotion these characters carried and made you feel a part of their journey. I couldn't have loved this one more. A new favorite of the series? I guess so.

Emotional and great blend of suspense

I liked this one, not really LOVED it like I did with this author’s other books, but still really enjoyed it. I don’t know if it was because it felt a little bit slow at the beginning or if it was just me not really “in the mood” for it … but it took me a while for me to “get into it” … Maybe because it kinda felt like it dragged on a bit, too … Almost like she (the author) made it longer than it really needed to be to meet a page requirement, if that makes sense … Anyway, it just what it seemed like to me. 😉 Although I DID really like how Shay (the FMC) saved HERSELF for a change! Very unexpected from this author, I think! 😊👍🏻 Also, all the “s*xy scenes” were more sweet than really “spicy”. And, where was the unique, cute nickname?? Again with NO sweet nickname for the FMC?? I NEED Piper (the FMC of the next book in the series, I think) to have a cute nickname, CC [the author], PLEASE!! 🙏🏻😅 Oh, and * SPOILER HERE * I also liked how the the woman Shay’s “talking” online with wasn’t involved in hurting her at all … I was really worried that she was for a second! 😅 (I’m not gonna say who that woman is here; you’ll just have to read/listen to the book to find out! 😉)

I Liked It! 😊
