About this listen

A diabolical traitor who's always out of reach....

England, 1814. Lady Arianna Hadley and her husband, the Earl of Saybrook, want nothing more than to savor a quiet life embellished by the occasional cup of the finest chocolate. However, when they receive orders to travel to Scotland and capture an elusive traitor, they feel their duty to the Crown must come first.

In a laboratory in Scotland, they discover the corpse of a chemistry professor - and cryptic papers hinting at a dangerous new discovery now in enemy hands. Racing against time, Arianna and Saybrook pursue their most cunning and dangerous adversary yet through a complex network of intrigue involving exotic chocolates, daredevil aviators, a missing inventor, and a secret recipe that must be recovered at any cost....

I have enjoyed this series I've listened to it a few times and have enjoyed it. I have learned new things the second time. wish there were more books to this series.

love this series.

The story is pretty good and generally I have enjoyed these books and the characters. However, I am completely perplexed by the narrator. She does most of the characters well except the main one!- Arianna. She reads both the main woman and the narrative in this breathy, whispery sing song manner. The end of a sentence lilts up. What is really disconcerting is that the main character more or less raises herself in the West Indies but has an aristocracy voice. Or if she did, she would not be all breathy and whispery. It’s odd and distracts from the book. The others characters are done fine though very odd.

Good story but narration leaves something to be desired

Love the series. Grateful to have found them at book 7. Not sure if more are to come, but between the author and this narrator, it's a winning combination so can only hope.

GUESS I'M LATE TO THIS SERIES. LOVE IT!

The breathy whispering tone that was adopted in this book wasn't in the previous ones. Very distracting and somewhat annoying.

Update: I increased the speed to 1.10, and the narration improved drastically.

What happened to the narrator?

This story was okay. Well-written, lots of character development. Narration was fine.
But I found it a little depressing to stay with. Characters were immediately in danger and stayed that way for most of the story, main character is uncertain about her husband’s feelings for her and although he clears some of that up at the end, there is no sense of closure. Exhausting rather than suspenseful. I like a better balance of fun and humor.

A little too dark
