Of all the dukes in England, Jered Marcus Benton, the Duke of Bradford, was the wealthiest, most handsome - and most arrogant. And of all London’s ladies, he wanted the tender obedience of only one: Caroline Richmond.

She was a ravishing beauty from Boston, with a mysterious past and a fiery spirit. Drawn to the powerful duke, undeterred by his presumptuous airs, Caroline was determined to win his lasting love. But Bradford would bend to no woman - until a deadly intrigue drew them enticingly close. Now, united against a common enemy, they would discover the power of the magnificent attraction that brought them together…a desire born in danger, but destined to flame into love!

This book was ok, there was nothing special about it. I like Julie Garwood and this wasn't my favorite. The male character is a narcissistic macho man without many endearing qualities. When the story finally reveals why he is the way he is (self absorbed & emotionally unavailable) all i could think of was, COME ON! The female lead is likeable enough but had she really been the independent, strong willed female her character is sold to be, she would have left the Duke of Bradford about 1/2 through the book. So in between all this, there is chemistry & mystery and the story moves along. I believe I would have enjoyed this book more if it weren't for Anna Flosnik's voice. I've listened to Little Bee and a number of other books narrated by her and her enunciation of what sounds like every single syllable, well perhaps just the last syllabel is grating. I know my opinion is not in majority with audible listeners. I would have enjoyed this book with a little less Flosnik.

Love all Julie Garwood historical romances. Anne Flosnik is good but not great, and makes the heroines sound like an old man talking sometimes.

Awesome Story, not the best narration

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, I couldn't finish it because I found the narrator too irritating. I don't understand why this woman narrates so many books when she has such an annoying voice!!

Horrible narrator
