If you grew up in the 80s, you will love this.

This is so chocked full of pop-culture references it's almost too much. But if you enjoyed 80s geek culture, homage is paid in full. The author tries to reach for something more profound in the end - along the lines of "love you for who you are not what you look like" - and falls mostly flat, but that doesn't detract from the lovely nostalgia tour.

A must read for anyone.

Wil Wheaton brings every character to life with feeling and personality. So much so that as the story rolls on, I personally felt so invested that my heart would begin pounding in anticipation.
As to the story itself, Ernest Cline is quite obviously a nerd's nerd. The references are all spot on, and even the emotional doubt and fear of being social will familiar to anyone who was a young gamer.
I look forward to letting this one fade from my memory a bit, in anticipation of reading it again.

Glad I Stuck With it

Slow start but you definitely get hooked in and can't stop listening once it picks up. Awesome reading by the narrator

Why did I ever put off listening to this!?

Based on the summary of the book it didn’t really peak my interest. However, after a coworker strongly suggested I give it a try, I purchased it. Very glad I did!

There were many points when I couldn’t stop listening and found myself sitting in the garage still listening in my car or adding a mile or two while walking my dogs. Can’t wait for the movie!

What did you love best about Ready Player One?

The story and characters were all relevant. The narrative flowed very smoothly from one topic to another. The author actually took the time to research classic game memes, and other gaming subculture to create the most immersive experience to the reader. Every line, paragraph and chapter, read as though they were well thought out beforehand.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of the characters were my favorite.

Which scene was your favorite?

The whole story, was interesting but i truly enjoyed the narrative, when the protagonist had to act out an entire scene from one of my favorite movies "War Games".

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I found a new favorite author, I just hope he writes more books like this.
