They tell the story of our mating as a warning…

Izzy

In my pack, I’m a cautionary tale, the female who made her mate wait too long and drove him into rut.

After that terrible night, Trevor was exiled, and I became a lesson to others that Fate always wins. Fight, and you’ll lose.

But maybe I don’t want my life to be a lesson to others. Or a tragedy.

Some wounds can’t be healed, but what if I tried? Would Trevor try, too? Or would he run again from the female who turned him into a monster?

Trevor

The night I attacked my mate destroyed me. Until then, I had believed that I was a good male. In the end, I was an animal.

If not for Izzy—and the bond aching in my chest that tells me she’s still alive, still fighting—I would’ve given up years ago, but I can’t abandon her. I can’t face her, either.

But then, by a twist of Fate, our paths cross, and I don’t have a choice. She’s standing in front of me, scared and shaking, but she’s not running away.

And I have no idea what to do—or how to even begin fixing the unfixable.

This is my favorite of the 5 packs books. The narrator performance for this story was heartbreaking, and it really brought to life all the angst and sadness that came with Trevor and Izzy's story, while Marcella did a really nice job bringing Izzy to the light.

I loved this story and was really afraid to listen to the audiobook out of fear that the actors wouldn’t do this very emotional story justice. I’m so glad I didn’t listen to myself. The actors are absolutely incredible. I’ve never cried listening to an audiobook but they were so good I couldn’t help myself. Bravo

Deeply emotional and wonderful

This was honestly so good! Listening to this story took it to a whole new level, and I’m so glad I experienced it in audio. The narrators truly brought the story to life , it felt raw, intense, and incredibly real. My emotions were all over the place… I was completely wrung out by the end, but totally worth the emotional damage!

So good!

This was another knockout from Cate C. Wells. This series is one of my absolute favourites and Ravaged Wolf is a stellar addition to the pack (pun intended - see what I did there!). Starting at Moon Lake pack (ahhh, Cadoc, you big glass of deliciousness, you), the book details Izzy and Trevor's tragic relationship that's become pack lore - the tale that parents tell their kids to scare them. Usually with this series, the female lead is the one of lower rank and while Izzy still fits this author's usual trope of a downtrodden heroine, it's Trevor who's lower in rank and deemed as the worst possible match for Izzy, his mate. Kept apart by her horrid parents and other high-ranking males, their story seems to be set when going crazy with need for her mate, Izzy sneaks out and finds Trevor who's been kept so long from his mate, he goes into rut. He assaults his mate, badly, and is exiled from the pack as a result. As you can probably tell, there are some trauma-related tropes covered here that might be triggering for some readers so make sure you check those out if you're someone that needs to know before you start reading. I will say that the author handles the heavy issues sensitively and the relationship development and rebuilding between the main couple is beautiful and tastefully written. Also, you can read this book as a standalone but just be mindful that there are other books written in this world that come before Ravaged Wolf and a few of the characters from those pop up - the author fills in the gaps where needed but honestly, if you have the time, start from the beginning because all of the books are fabulous.

There was so much to like in this story, from their tragic start, to their tentative efforts to get to know each other to their eventual reconnection at the Old Den pack. I adored both of the main characters. Izzy had an aggressive, abusive father and a mother that was neglectful at best, constantly pointing out her flaws and who didn't protect her daughter the way she should have. Despite all of that, Izzy made the choice to make a change, go out of her comfort zone and be the one who sets her life on a new course. Her story was one of strength, growth and self-empowerment as she took the road less travelled and risked the unknown to try for a chance at happiness instead of asking 'What if?' and continuing to live the shell of a life she had been. As for Trevor? Holy moly, I was rooting for him so badly. In contrast to the alpha-esque wolves seen in other books in this series, he was a gentle, kind sweetheart. I loved his upbringing, his family, his values and how desperately he wanted Izzy who he thought was sunshine itself from the moment he knew she was his mate (while also being absolutely terrified). While events were out of his control, his self-loathing was as strong as his desire to live a simple life with his mate. The development of their romance was really beautiful and the writing was realistic.

Some fan favourites pop up throughout the story such as Cadoc, Alex, Seth, Una, Rosie and Nia. You get another glimpse into life at the Old Dens as the new pack grows and they start to build a self-sufficient community. There's also a quick visit to Quarry pack as well as updates on some of the surrounding packs and their occupants such as the Scavengers.

Their were two narrators for Ravaged Wolf and they were both excellent. They made the story flow smoothly, were easy to listen two and were clear and articulate. While I've read the paper copy of this a few times already, the narration really added something special to the characters and made them shine.

This was a really satisfying read for me and will be yet another book from this author that goes straight into my Favourites folder and will be reread. Izzy and Trevor's slow-burn, second-chance romance hit all the right spots and had me cheering them on. Both characters weren't perfect but they were doing their best and it made my heart so incredibly happy. It's a story of fated mates whose destiny had been decided in the worst of ways but despite all odds, set a new path for their own fate, took back their lives and chose each other.

Cate Wells has written an amazing book, Ravaged Wolf, that will break your heart and then put it back together better than it ever was. This story is told in a slow and even manner just like the book which unfolded as our 2 main characters are broken and put back together through time and hard work.

The villains in the story are her family who force Izzy and Trevor to wait to seal their bond in order to increase her family’s power within the pack. We are back in the den where elitists rule and Trevor is a lower class member. The delay forces Trevor to fall into a rut when Izzy sneaks out to meet him driven by her heat. The pain experienced by these two (imposed and self-inflicted) is devastating and they will both suffer PTSD as they work through their trauma once Izzy has the courage to seek out her mate.

Usually the FMC is my favorite character but Trevor with his calm, funny and loving nature steals the show for me. It is amazing that they have the courage to face the damage and work through the flashbacks and recriminations using love and humor that make the story so powerful. It is actually Izzy who has the most courage to find a way back to him, to rebuild herself with the help of friends, and seek out her exiled mate at Old Den where he finally ends up. The setting allows us to see many of our favorite characters from other books and I wonder which of the possible couples will be the leads in the next book.
