The past comes back to haunt Sean Dillon and his colleagues, as the New York Times best-selling master of suspense returns with a knife-edge story of terrorism, revenge, and a very old nemesis.

In the past few years, the killing and capture of many Al-Qaeda leaders has left the terrorist organization wounded - but by no means dead. And they intend to prove it.

On a dark summer night, two Chechen mercenaries emerge from the waters off Nantucket to kill a high-value target, the former president of the United States, Jake Cazalet. Unfortunately for them, Cazalet has guests with him, including black ops specialist Sean Dillon and his colleague, Afghan war hero Captain Sara Gideon.

The Chechens do not survive the night, but Dillon is curious as to how they even got on the island. What he discovers sends a chill through his bones - a name from very far back in Dillon’s past. If this man is working with the terrorists now, the assassination attempt is only the beginning - and the next time, the results might be much, much different.

I struggled to complete, seemed to drag on and on, very boring but reader was good.

I think I could have followed this book better had I actually read it. I found myself getting lost with regards to who was who as the accents made every character sound the same.

HARD TIME

This was another great book in the Sean Dillon series. It brought back some beloved characters and we get get some new characters that are ready to join in the series. All in all I had a great time listening.

This audiobook was just okay. The story line was predictale and coul have been better. These books are also very short when compared to most books.

Decent

I like the way that Higgins has introduced new members of the PM's private army over the last few books. they bring a variety of talents and backgrounds into the plots that keeps you guessing right up to the end as to results. Higgins had formed a modern day avengers and I cannot wait for the movie. But who will play Sean.

Higgins does it again.

very good

All the plot twists - if you can call them that, involved the bad guys becoming good guys or the good guys happening to be in the right place at the right time or some other nonsense.

Good guys favored all the way.

As many of these Jack Higgins (Sean Dillon) novels as I've read and reviewed.......... the entire series, actually, this the first that truly runs the story completely off the rails. As much as Higgins has written about the White House Connection to the Sean Dillon character, he should know by now one basic truth that, if realized, would make him disregard this plot line. That fact is this: The President of the United States, regardless of current, or former, by law, has Secret Service Protection for life. The only way that changes (It can't for the sitting President) is if the former president specifically requests Secret Service protection be ended. Jake Cazalet has not done that. Therefore, none of the scenarios in this book where he is alone out walking or running or alone in a house would ever happen. No intruder would make it up the front steps of his home and point a gun at him. No-one would attack him on the street; No-one would ring the bell of his hotel room door, because no-one would be allowed on the floor. He'd never be allowed to run or go for a walk alone. He would always have his protection detail with him. There's even some question as to whether Sean Dillon would be allowed to carry a firearm while in the same room with him. His Secret Service detail would never allow it. Cazalet is pretty much untouchable and these petty thugs with their grandiose plans would never get to first base. The second completely unrealistic aspect of the plot involves 'The Master'. There's no way on the planet he could have or get access to half the information he seems to be able to gather at a moment's notice. He finds numbers he couldn't possibly get and has an unending supply of money which he seems to be able to deposit into anyone's account he wishes. Think about the logistics involved to be able to do that. Suspending belief in reality for the sake of entertainment is one thing. Assuming his readers are completely brain dead and possess no capability for independent thought is borderline insulting. I've ranted before about the repetition of these boilerplate phrases his characters utter, ad nauseam, and how they drink champagne like most people drink water, but have glossed those over as Higgin's lack of imagination or his inability to create more than 3 basic plots which permeate his story lines. But lacking the foresight to do any research on what a former US President's after office life would be like is just lazy.

The entire premise is flawed. (Contains Spoilers)
