"A soft breeze fluttered the white, blue, and red Russian flag in front of the U.N. mission. I remember when the Soviet hammer and sickle flew there. I kind of miss the Cold War. But I think it's back."

Radiant Angel

After a showdown with the notorious Yemeni terrorist known as The Panther, John Corey has left the Anti-Terrorist Task Force and returned home to New York City, taking a job with the Diplomatic Surveillance Group. Although Corey's new assignment with the DSG - surveilling Russian diplomats working at the UN Mission - is thought to be "a quiet end", he is more than happy to be out from under the thumb of the FBI and free from the bureaucracy of office life.

But Corey realizes something the US government doesn't: the all-too-real threat of a newly resurgent Russia.

When Vasily Petrov, a colonel in the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service posing as a diplomat with the Russian UN Mission, mysteriously disappears from a Russian oligarch's party in Southampton, it's up to Corey to track him down. What are the Russians up to and why? Will Corey find Petrov and put a stop to whatever he has planned before it's too late? Or will Corey finally be outrun and outsmarted, with America facing the prospect of a crippling attack unlike anything it's ever seen before?

Prescient and chilling. DeMille's new novel takes us into the heart of a new Cold War with a clock-ticking plot that has Manhattan in its crosshairs.

Reseñas editoriales

Editors Select, May 2015 - My favorite wise-a** former detective John Corey is back! In Radiant Angel, Corey is working a supposedly 'quiet end' job following UN diplomats. But as Corey says himself, 'I can make any job interesting. Or stressful.' When his current assignment Vasily Petrov (codename: Vaseline) gives him the slip (pun intended) it leads Corey to believe that something sinister is at play. Having faced many types of adversaries in his past it's now John Corey vs. the Russians in a game where the stakes couldn't be any higher – the city of New York. –John, Audible Editor

I like this books for the main character, John Corey. This book follows the Panther in the series The dialogue is always good and the suspense fast past. This one involves a terrorist attack on NYC by the Russians versus Arabs, the later getting to be a slightly tired theme. As usual John Corey breaks all the rules, always has a wisecrack, and gets into big trouble even though he saves 10 million people. His wife as a main character is missing from this book, and he picks up a new female partner. There is good tension between the two.

If you like the series you will like this, and only be disappointed by the length of the book. If you have not read any in this series start with another one since they all good in this genre.
I liked the Panther and The Lions Game. Those average close to 20 hours each so you get more for your Audible credit.

As usual, Scott Brick is an excellent narrator.

Although shorter good continuation of series

Small. It's a small story. I've read many of DeMille's books and I've enjoyed the sarcastic wit of his main character through those books. Compared to the rich plots and complexity of the rest of the series, this one feels like a novella. The big bad plan from the bad guys is cliche and overused, the scope of the story is short in both duration and area. This whole books, from any other author, would feel like a transitional middle book in a mediocre series as the author decided to take things in a new direction. All that aside, John Corey is still the same sarcastic but otherwise perfect cop that he's always been. The prose is skilled, and the narration is, of course, top notch as is always the case with Scott Brick.

Not up to Demille's usually high standard

Wow, what a book. Once I got into it I couldn't stop listening. Good old John was his typical self throughout the story. With his attitude on life, I expect every woman he comes across would try to shoot him.

Scott Brick was his usual flawless narrator. He has always been able to change his personalities for each of the people in that portion of the story. He could make a tech instruction manual enjoyable.

It's a good thing it was a shorter story. My wife was about to kill me spending all my time on the book. Now she's into it so it all works out.

Couldn't stop listening!

Good idea for plot, but tedious in execution (pun intended). DeMille is losing his touch.

Tedious in execution

this narrator happens to be my favorite. he makes John Corey feel so real that I feel know him so well. can't wait til the next 1. can't say I missed Kate Mayfield at all but am of course looking forward to the follow-up on that storyline too.

Luv John Corey.

This was a good book is all John Coreybooks are. It was pretty standard or as far as a story line goes. I didn't care for the Marisol trouble that John has. Also the deductive skills of John Corey didn't really seem to be in play as much as they were in previous novels. Scott Brick is a good narrator, He does a great job with John's sarcastic wit. However, when it comes to narrating the villains of the story he is way overly dramatic and sinister. Everything of a villain might say is done with an evil undertone with evil intentions, especially when unnecessary. A villain could be asking for a cup of coffee and you expect a maniacal laugh to follow. This part of his performance is exhausting. This book is worth listening to, however it is not one of the best John Corey books.

A good book

I found too much lengthy dialogue which seemed to drag on and on. I didn't like the over usage of the "F-word", either.

Earlier books seemed "classier".

This was another excellent John Corey read. His wit and sarcasm bring a smile to your face while at the same time the intensity of the action makes it difficult to put the book down. During the book, I was beginning to think that Nelson DeMille would bring closure to the John Corey character. However, the ending leads me to believe there may be another John Corey book in the future to enjoy again.

DeMille does it again.
