Publisher's summary

On several occasions, Gina and I looked at each other and said, "What the f--- did we do?!" Things to think about before you go...

Quit your job, sell your things, and travel full-time! The concept is enticing. The potential is limitless. But what does it feel like to go through those transitions? Is your van, your RV, or your backpack enough to call home? The answer is "yes", but your definitions will need to change.

If you think about the amazing experiences that must come with a life of full-time travel, the decision seems simple. Right? The abundance of pros must outweigh the cons. And they do! Each of those experiences is achievable, but creating a life that reflects your dream takes effort—and a lot of it at times. Chances are, if you are considering this path for yourself, you know that there will be challenges. But you might be surprised by some of them.

There are plenty of “how-to” manuals out there—explaining the logistics of living on the road, types of insurance coverage, what to bring with you and what to leave behind, safety tips, the best solar panels and toilets, what van build is right for you, the cost of living per day, how to choose the best pack, where to do your laundry and shower, how to access internet service, and almost everything else you can imagine. These are essential topics to explore. But nothing in that list prepares you for the deeper side of things—things that go on between the ears, that can dominate your days in the first few months of your new life.

This audiobook is intended to give you a fuller picture of what this kind of transition is really like, and to reassure you that when you are prepared—in all aspects—the life you are moving toward can be even more fulfilling than you thought!

Packed among the lists and the gear, along with the excitement and the smiles, you are bound to find some stowaways. There are a slew of thoughts, emotions, doubts, and uncertainties that travel right along with you. They are normal and natural, but can be totally unexpected. And if you’re not prepared for them, they can cloud the vision that was so strong when you laid the groundwork for your adventure.

When you finish this audiobook, you will understand how it feels to go through several life transitions at once and come out on the other side as excited and optimistic as you were when you first dreamed of this life.

Great thoughts about realistic expectations

I just listened to the entirety of this book and thought it was quite well done. We are about to embark on full-time living after years of waiting! He brings up some good points, many were confirmations of what was already in my head, but he had some great new ideas for me as well. It’s especially nice to hear someone share about the “mental” part and not just the “how to” with your rig.

I was a little disappointed with the narrator only because there were times that sounded like he’s trying to convince you of this choice. That said, his voice was nice and clear. Definitely worth the listen.
