Third time reading - kills “me” everytime’

This may have been a book written for children but it SO powerful. In my top ten all time books. How many times do you need to ask - eas that right or wrong? So much debatable injustice. This book, in my opinion, is quite simply a work of art.

Beautiful story where you grow with the characters

Fantastic narration and very localised. Feeling like you grow up with Tommy. Suspense til the very last moment. Beautiful story and well-deserved.

Very thought-provoking

A very somber and thought-provoking story. Draining at times too as it contains a lot of sadness, unfairness and death with hardly any moments of joy or hope to lift the spirits occasionally. Mr Morpurgo has pitched this perfectly with year 6/7 children in mind - it has a clear message and uncluttered writing style with plenty of interesting themes for discussion. Well narrated by Jamie Glover.
