Good Listen

Very difficult to find a Portuguese language workbook that uses the dialogue from Portugal. It is very different than Portuguese in Brazil. So if you're wanting to learn Portuguese from Portugal, this is the book for you!

Entertaining

This book is a good way to get a feeling that you are truly reading a book in Portuguese but the content was a little below what would keep my interest to completion.

Learn Portuguese for Beginners

I have tried to learn Portuguese many ways. This book is one of the best. It repeats the words, so my vocabulory increases and I feel more secure in Portuguese.

I am an intermediate Portuguese learner and I find this a very manageable book. The vocabulary section after each chapter is extremely helpful and the stories are interesting!

Fun stories with lots of surprises

Fun stories with lots of surprises, great pace. It is so encouraging to be able to read and understand the stories, even as a beginning Portuguese student. I am very glad I found this book!!

Portuguese

The stories are very entertaining. I have had to work hard to understand them, but that's just because I'm still learning Portuguese.

Extremely difficult to understand the instructor’s English.

The guy they hired for this has a very heavy accent, when he translates a word from Portuguese to English he uses Portuguese pronunciation it seems. I cannot understand 1/3 of what he’s saying. For example he pronounces litter like liter, he says “clow” instead of cloud. He swallows his words and uses nasal sounds when speaking English. All the good ratings are puzzling to me. This was kinda a waste of money and not conducive to efficient learning.

Far too many typos and mistakes

It's incredible how many typos and mistakes there are in this, otherwise, it would be pretty effective. Just one example of many: in the first story, Roberto says to his teacher, Mrs Nevesh, "obrigada" instead of "obrigado." Both the speaker and the PDF have this error. As a beginner that greatly confused me as I can't find any examples of males using "obrigada" in that way, even when addressing women. Is that a way of formal speech? If so, it was never explained.

Not appropriate for audio-book form

While I'm sure the physical book is instructive for reference purposes, it's a dry listen

Awful beyond words

The most boring audio book I have ever had the misery to endure. Dull delivery doesn't even begin to cover it. The narrator's English accent is appalling and the examples given are complex and inappropriate. I listened to 4 chapters with increasing horror. Avoid like the plague.

Super

I really enjoyed this book and am still enjoying it, I used it to teach a Portuguese 1 class for my homeschooling group, and it was easy to teach. I highly recommend it.

I'm Impressed

A very good book to use if you are learning Portuguese. I like the exercises where I can do them and look up the answers in the back...Each lesson gives just enough new material so you aren't overwhelmed.

Don’t get this book

I did not like this book. Especially the way he makes you repeat many words and phrases without telling you what they mean.
I also thought the introduction unnecessary, the use of technical language for parts of speech is not well directed, which it would have to be in order for it to be helpful at all.
I found the sound of the narrators voice did not draw me in.
There are much better language programs out there, don’t get this one.
