This course includes lessons one through five from the European Portuguese Level 1 program, featuring 2.5 hours of language instruction. Detailed instructions enable you to understand and participate in the conversation. Practice for vocabulary introduced in previous lessons is included in each lesson. The emphasis is on pronunciation and comprehension and on learning to speak European Portuguese. A user's guide is included.

The European Portuguese Language

Portuguese is the mother tongue of about 170 million people, mainly in Portugal and the Portuguese islands in the Atlantic, Brazil, and Portugal's former overseas provinces in Africa and Asia. Pimsleur's European Portuguese teaches the Lisbon dialect of Portuguese.

very well designed lessons

all lessons were very easy to understand and learn. The repetition helps to memorize without even noticing.

easy to follow

Love it, I think I want to focus on Brazilian Portuguese. with a smart phone and head phones, you can learn anywhere.

Great for learning pronunciation and basic phrases

As a Spanish speaker I bought this to prepare for an upcoming trip to Portugal, primarily so that I could better pronounce Portuguese place names, menu items etc. and not just say them in Spanish. I’m extremely satisfied as these lessons were exactly what I was looking for. I’m hoping that the next volumes cover some more basic requests like ordering in restaurants and asking how much things cost. The conversations in this volume cracked me up a couple of times, as the American dude kept fishing for comments from the Portuguese woman about his Portuguese (it works lol). Recommended!

Great way to learn a language

This is my first time using audible for language learning purposes and I am very pleased. I am a visual learner but the pace and repetition made it possible for me to still learn some Portuguese. There were a few times I had to rewind and listen to certain phrases again but I imagine this is normal. It is literally a foreign language. I would highly recommend this program. Each lesson is about 30 min and they recommend you only do one a day. They do a good job recalling words and phrases in the next lesson instead of overwhelming you with new material each time. Its a productive way to use your morning commute time. Give it a try!

Awesome European Portuguese Audiobook

The audiobook takes listeners on a fantastically constructed educational excursion. The book is interactive, allowing speakers of any level to quickly understand basic conversational elements in real life situations that assist in better memory acquisition.

The content is not too long allowing the listeners to set aside time each day towards mastering the language. All in all a great listen, powerfully delivered with strong content.

Great audio

I’ve learned more pronunciation in 2 days than a semester online. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to speak. It would be nice to have the exercises to read as your saying it. A few words hard to understand.

First encounter

I speak 3 foreign languages well. And I am going to speak Portuguese fluently in a relatively short time. Great course

Great resource

This uses real-life scenarios, so it is a very realistic method of learning the language.

It’s fine

This follows the same format as Pimsleur courses but for me the nature of European Portuguese doesn’t lend itself well to pure audio learning because of the phonetic system. I find find that I need written material to follow along.
