Publisher's Summary

Baking. It can get a guy killed.

When a retired detective superintendent chooses to take a culinary tour of the British Isles, he hopes to find tasty treats and delicious bakes...what he finds is a clue to a crime in the ingredients for his pork pie.

His dog, Rex Harrison, an ex-police dog fired for having a bad attitude, cannot understand why the humans are struggling to solve the mystery. He can already smell the answer - it’s right before their noses.

He’ll pitch in to help his human and the shop owner’s teenage daughter as the trio set out to save the shop from closure. Is the rival pork pie shop across the street to blame? Or is there something far more sinister going on?

One thing is for sure, what started out as a bit of fun, is getting deadlier by the hour, and they’d better work out what the dog knows soon or it could be curtains for them all.

Note: This series of books contain no cussing and graphic descriptions of violence or bedroom activities.

good read

Story line moved awkwardly but overall good read. The dog could have had a bigger part but that is my opinion.

Rex is a good boy

I love the dog having a say about things. I wondered how a book could be all about pork pies, but it’s a wonderful adventure

Totally disrespectful of real service dogs

entire premise is lying to make people believe your dog is a service dog when it is not. its done by a retired cop no less. its this kind of attitude causes people to not believe real service dogs are indeed real. despicable.

Pork Pie Pandemonium

I enjoyed the part of the dog. It was an okay story line. I kept thinking of the musical Sweeny Todd. For me the story was not riveting.

Charming

Funny and charming with enough intrigue to keep one guessing. Very enjoyable. Charles Robert Fox was the perfect “voice” for the story!

love it!

A ton of fun! The main characters (all 3) are intelligent, interesting, and likable. Their involvement in the crime is plausible. The story / mystery moves along at a good pace and holds your interest.

Very well-written and well narrated. I'm looking forward to listening to the whole series.

(Also, no vicious violence, no over-the-top language, and best of all no Hallmark Channel style romances.)

Rooster lit?

I’m a cat lover (Cat Who series) and was looking for hen lit. Came across this series and am not disappointed. A good, laugh out loud read.

Easy listening short book, perfect for ironing

I love the characters which are easy to like and the story told by different perspectives gave the detective in me a chance to flourish.

The narration had the right tone but was unfortunately read with many pauses which was rather annoying.

A great mystery with a cool dog.

I really enjoyed this book. The narrator is the same as some of the blue moon paranormal books and having listened to both I think his voice really suits this series of books better. I could imagine him as Albert. The dog is hilarious especially the bit knowing where to bite. In this book having lost his wife a year ago Albert decides to go on a trip learning how to make his favourite food. His wife always used to cook for him. As a retired Police Superintendent he's quite capable of looking after himself and with his dog Rex Harrison disguised as helping dog he can take Rex just about anywhere. He's booked a lesson to learn how to make pork pies but when a severed thumb is found and it looks like the business will close Albert steps in to help. Great start to the series. Look forward to listening or reading to more. I received a free copy of this book from the author but the review is my own opinion.

Side splitting hilarity from the get go!

This story had me laughing so hard my eyes were watering and my cheeks were hurting. Mixed with the drama of the unraveling events, Rex Harrison had me in stitches! I loved every minute of this story and will be having another go every time I need a good hard laugh! Perfect narration that brought this story to life and kept me listening non-stop straight to the end! Highly recommended!!!
