Do you live in constant fear? Do you worry that something terrible is about to happen? Do you have trouble breathing, relaxing, and sleeping? Do you think you're losing control, and that you're going to die?

Are you trapped in your own personal hell, and don’t know how to get out?

I've been there, and I know what it’s like. Shallow breathing, tension in the gut, chest pains, rapid heartbeat... Every moment is exhausting, crushing, and painful. Anxiety destroys your confidence, your productivity, your relationships, and your ability to enjoy life. The worst part is the obsessive hopelessness—the gnawing sense that you’ll never feel happy again.

Fear no more. You can put an end to your suffering. You can start living again. And it’s not as hard as you think....

Play It Away covers my entire journey: what caused my anxiety, the "A-ha!" moment that led to my cure, and how I got my life back. In this book, you’ll learn:

  • The key breakthrough that allowed me to enjoy life again
  • My step-by-step plan for healing anxiety without drugs
  • How I turned nonstop worrying into background noise
  • My unusual technique for stopping panic attacks
  • Why "anchors" fuel anxiety, and how to remove them
  • How I finally started sleeping well again
  • Three common nutrient deficiencies that amplify anxiety
  • How to boost productivity and have guilt-free fun

As a physician working with dying patients, I sometimes get stressed out, anxious, etc. But my bigger reason for reading this book was knowing that I'm a workaholic. I've never read a book by workaholic, about workaholism, etc. This just floored me. Maybe more a reflection of my lack of exposure to literature on the topic then on the groundbreaking nature of the book, but I was still blown away. I'm no stranger to self-help literature having read probably more than 100 books in the genre, which was one of the reasons I put off reading this book for so long. I did not expect to find anything new in it. To be fair, there are some classic suggestions in here that were not new, but the premise of the book "go play" was presented an engaging and convincing way and the action items were clear and straightforward. It's only 2 1/2 hours, but I stopped and bookmarked at least five different spots in the book and said out loud "holy shit, this is me, I need to do __suggestion from the book___".

The first workaholic book I've read, and holy sh*t

The book doesn’t offer vague ways to help with anxiety. It gave exact directions on things that might help. The book has help me very much.

I needed a quick anxiety read and I was drawn to this title. I mostly read ocd/anxiety books written by doctors and in fairness, this guy gives the disclaimer in the beginning that he is not a doctor, just sharing his experience. I was sooo excited that it was narrated by Ray Chase as he is one of my fav anime VAs. He was the best part imo.

This is a good book overall and I appreciate the author’s journey and positivity. It was difficult for me to relate to in some ways bc my anxiety/ocd have been with me since childhood, it did not come on suddenly as his did. I also would not call myself a workaholic but I def think a lot of the same draining worries he experienced.

I liked a lot of his suggestions and have already implemented some myself to quell my anxiety before reading this. I def did not like the trauma response suggestion, that was wacky. And I took his advice about joining the reddit group to try to help ppl who are thinking of harming themselves and immediately regretted it and deleted my profile. I don’t need to add other ppl’s problems to my own! 🤯

Overall, I recommend this book if you are a workaholic and suffering from anxiety. There are def better books out there, many written by doctors but this is a nice, light read if you are looking for some positivity and humor in your life.

Great narrator, somewhat helpful book
