Publisher's summary

Lilly Brandt was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now, she is running for her life - straight into a small, obscure Amish community in Southern Maryland. Now as Hannah Kurtz, she knows she won’t be staying in Cherry Hill long enough to form any attachments, but she hadn’t counted on meeting and being attracted to the kind, young man with the amazing blue eyes.

Jacob Beiler, a skilled young furniture maker, has made a vow of his own. After being jilted by the girl he trusted right before he was about to propose, he decides to focus strictly on honing his craft and guarding his heart from any future injury. When Hannah Kurtz enters his world, she drops into his mending heart as well. Against his better judgement, he allows himself to care again and to trust another woman.

When the Amish community discovers Hannah is not really Amish and that she is not even Hannah Kurtz, Jacob feels betrayed yet again. Will he be able to forgive Hannah’s necessary deception, or will he walk away from love forever?

Wonderful Clean Read

I was drawn into this story from the start. This well written book grabbed my attention and I immediately became captivated by the characters and the story. It's the kind of book that is wholesome yet still contains adventure, mystery, faith and love. My idea of a lovely story.💕

The narration of Amy Deuchler was spot on. You know when you've found a good narrator when, after a few minutes of listening, you get so absorbed that you forget the story is being read to you. She made a good book even better. 🌸

Yes, I was given a review copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review, but I would have gladly used a credit for this book. My thanks to the author and narrator for the opportunity to review. I am looking forward to more books in this series. 😁

Highly recommended. loved it.

I totally loved this book. I am not sure what else i can say. It made me laugh at some points and also cry. I totally fell in love with the community and all the characters. I loved Hannah and Jake of course, but also Ester. she was very funny and lovable. The narration was also wonderful. The narrator conveyed all the emotions so well. She really brought the story to life. I hope there will be other books in this series in audio. I will be checking out this author for other audio books for sure.

An Amish experience

"This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review." Susan Lanz Simpson wrote an excellent story and Amy Deuchler did a wonderful job as narrator. I hadn't read Amish books before, and I throughly enjoyed reading "Plain Haven'. The story revolves arouind Lily Brandt, who has been placed in witness protection after she witnessed two men disposing of a body. Placed in an Amish settlement is hard , since she knows very little about their life style and customs, but she soon adjusts and finds love. This is a wonderful book and I recommend it highly.

Hidden with love

Plain Haven (Plainly Maryland, Book 1)
: Susan Lantz Simpson

This is a sweet, clean romance with more than the listener could want. The characters all have their own personalities that interact well with each other. It kept me hanging on to the end to see what would happen.

The narration was well done. The characters were well portrayed by Amy Deuchler.

Plain Haven

Plain Haven is a sweet romance with a great element of mystery. When Lily witnessed something she shouldn’t have, she’s forced into witness protection to keep her safe. Now reinvented as Hannah, she’s adjusting to life in an Amish community. She finds more than she could have hoped for. She just may lose it all when her past catches up to her...

Susan Lantz Simpson has written an engaging story with wonderful characters and a great plot. I didn’t want to put it down.

I thought Amy Deuchler did a great job with the narration. She really brought the story to life.

I have listened over and over

It might be because of the news. It comforts me and like the main character Hannah, her friend Esther is a friend in my imagination. In addition it is a mystery. I hope the series will come to Audible in full. Note: This was given to me.

Plain Haven Rev

Audiobook Review 3/5 Stars: Plain Haven (Plainly Maryland Book 1)
Summary:
After witnessing a crime, Lily Brandt becomes Hannah Kurtz (spelling?) and hides in an Amish community. Jacob got burned in the past by a woman who didn’t want to be Amish anymore.

Additional Comments:
• Disclaimer: This is not a genre I generally read. That probably heavily influenced my feelings about the story.
• The pacing is very, very, very slow. I don’t think there’s one stitch of action until 7 hours into the story. And even then, it’s very small amount of action.
• Side characters are numerous and decently fleshed out.
• I can’t tell you how many times Jacob’s blue eyes were mentioned. Well, above 12 times.
• Similarly, there was an overabundance of mentions of cookies.
• Esther is my favorite character. At least she spoke her mind.
• The twists were super-predictable.
• The song (well-sung) at the end was scary. I don’t think that was the intended effect.
• The performance was okay. I played it at 2x. (I realize that the nuances of the performance may be lost at faster speeds.)

Summary:
If you enjoy the genre, listen to a few minutes of the sample and give it a chance.
