Pinocchio is the best puppet story ever. Listeners will quickly be caught up in Carlo Collodi's impish creation as they are swept along at an action-packed pace. From the day when Geppetto first carves Pinocchio from a piece of wood to the final happy ending - with many exciting and dangerous adventures along the way - Pinocchio will charm and captivate. The story also has a strong moral throughout, which is as suitable for children (and adults!) today as when the original book was written.

This recording has been abridged from a translation of the original text, which was first published in 1883. It remains faithful to the book from which Walt Disney adapted his famous animated version.

Critic reviews

"A children's classic....Pinocchio delicately balances fantasy and reality, and therein lies its source of greatness." (Anita Silvey, The Essential Guide to Children's Books and Their Creators)

This book is NOT the Disney movie. If you are expecting the familiar story you watched as a child you will be surprised. I like the original a lot, but it is a bit preachy. Every time Pinoccio does something wrong something dreadful happens to him. When he finally does something good (begins working sixteen hour days making baskets to support his Father and 'Mother') he becomes a real boy. Anyway, kids will probably still enjoy the book.

The reader has a good voice. My sister didn't think so though, so opinions vary. Hope you enjoy it.
