The last great 19th-century Russian novelist brings his symbolism together with realism, to blend real and fictional people together in the Russian revolutionary period of 1905 that laid the seeds for the 1917 dark Soviet period that Bely anticipates, set in the Paris of Russia, St Petersburg. An intriguing fantasy mixed with reality, dark and bright colors, with a dose of romanticism.

The narration is laughably bad. Nearly every sentence is garbled. It makes the story practically incomprehensible.

Initially, I thought the narrator had an unusual, Christopher Walken style cadence. So, I tried again, but decided that he must have a complete contempt for puncuation and no interest in pronouncing any word the same way twice. Oh, there's also an ambient euro-dance score to set the mood. This reading is so bad that it must be intentionally so.

I couldn’t get past the first couple of pages. Also bad music is played in the background during the narration
