Throughout the last fourteen years, since the early days of Bitcoin, crypto has seen its fair share of critics. Some of them do not understand the value of cryptographic security, the importance of data collection or digital receipts, or the need for like-minded communities to bring value to one another. The crypto industry continues to see its fair share of major problems, including centralized exchange implosions like FTX, or other events such as rug pulls, theft, off-chain exploits, and scams. But these exist in all industries, especially in traditional finance.

For those who wish to remain in crypto, despite possibly being a victim of some of these events, one must develop a resiliency-centered skill set. A beginning any person can take is to recognize the greatest crypto critics themselves are not experts in this modern technology. In fact, former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt summed them up the best in his speech, The Man in the Arena:

"It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

So, when your favorite politician, bureaucrat, economist or academic criticizes crypto, just realize they are not technology experts and have hidden agendas. Question their motives. And rely upon your newly created resiliency tool kit to dig beneath the criticism, stay in the arena, and dare greatly to achieve victory.
