Not a Mystery

'Peril In Paradise' was marketed (or at least I thought it was) as a mystery on the open ocean! I loved the idea of a couple going on a fun cruise only to find themselves embroiled in a juicy mystery aboard the ship! That, however, is not how this book panned out. It was really about one woman having hysterical melt down one after another, while her husband and their new friends attempt to keep her calm. There really was no mysterious aspect to this story - the listener was pretty well aware of what was going on the whole time so it turned into just following characters making seemingly stupid mistakes. If I had known what this book was really about going in, I might have enjoyed it more. But since I wanted a mystery at sea I kept waiting for it and became more and more disappointed. This is more like a lighthearted comedy about growing pains experienced by adults who have children leaving the nest.

Not a mystery

Any additional comments?

I received a free copy of Peril in Paradise written by Deb Graham, and narrated by Ginger Walton in exchange for an unbiased review. This review copy Audio Book was provided by the author/narrator/publisher free of charge via Audio Book Boom.

Where to begin? As the other reviewers stated this was not a mystery by any means of the definition. Now, I have always wanted to see Hawaii. A story about a Hawaiian cruise just sounded fun to me even without a true mystery involved, but the story just dragged on. I did enjoy parts about Hawaii, but I didn't care for the characters. They weren't believable to me. They said they traveled a lot, so I would have expected them to handle some of their situations differently. They acted like new travelers who didn't know how to handle certain situation when red flags were going off all over.

The narrator I felt did a great job, and tried to put some excitement into the story, but there was just none to put in.

No mystery here.

Would you try another book from Deb Graham and/or Ginger Walton?

This book doesn't quite qualify as a mystery book, even though it is listed as one. I was able to guess very early on what was going on and who was the real culprit. There were no twists at the end. All the people on the cruise have to be rather dumb not to have figured it out. And there wasn't any real danger to any of the characters; so there was no real thrill in the story either. This makes me think the author isn't quite able to build up suspense or write a mystery/thriller. I would probably skip her for few years.

Has Peril In Paradise turned you off from other books in this genre?

No. No one book can turn me off from an entire genre.

Cruising

With good intentions they set out for a cruise to Hawaii, in which the upgrade that Will did, was a mistake. They have someone on board with sticky fingers going thru the upper class section. Will and Jerria get involved to solve along the way. Good narration and the audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

An enjoyable listen, but not really a mystery

I did enjoy listening to Peril in Paradise. There were a few times when I felt the characters weren't reacting to the situations the way I would have expected, however not everyone does react the same way. That being said, I am still looking forward to the next book in the series to see what happens with the characters.

I didn't care for the person who narrated book. I might have enjoyed more but the persons voice made the story drag on.

Good story

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed this story. So much so that I will be buying the next one in the series. Kept me captivated. Not a big fan of the narrator though almost seemed robotic sometimes. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Cruise with a mystery

A fun new cozy mystery. I enjoyed this story set on a cruise ship. I had a fun time listening to how this mystery would unfold. Ginger Walton was the narrator of this book. Ginger did a good job of reading this story. I received this audio-book as a gift with the agreement I would review this book with an honest review.

Enjoyable Listen

Both the author and narrator were new to me with this highly enjoyable story. Having been to Hawaii before and being familiar with so many of the spots highlighted in this cruise story, I was able to visualize so much. I found the story to be original, and enjoyed the light mystery. The author did a good job with the characters and provided a lot of atmosphere and authenticity in the details. The narrator did a very good performance with a number of the characters and the pronunciation of the Hawaiian words and accents. My review is not a synopsis of the book, but rather my opinion of it. I was given this free review copy audiobook and have voluntarily left this review. After listening to this book, I am hungry for a pineapple ice and the wonderful food on a cruise ship. I will definitely look for more books by both the author and narrator in the future.

A True Delight

This book is a light fluffy confection and just what I needed. Cruse along with a fun cast of characters. Simply written and to the point. Good detail and who doesn't love lots of food and travel descriptions. Great narration is the icing on the cake. Look forward to the second in the series and hope there will be more.

Stand tall, sister.

Any additional comments?

A delightful holiday by proxy, sitting on couches in the sunshine, dining at the captain's table and food, food and more food. I have never wanted to go on a cruise - still don't - but it was fun travelling with real estate brokers Will and Jerria Danson as they tried to sail away from her empty nest blues. Of course, it wasn't quite the plain sailing they had hoped for.
The book is well written, atmospheric and the characterisations delightful, if occasionally annoying. Real people, with flaws like everyone else: that's part of their charm. And there are tears and laughter
.
Ginger Walton's sultry, warm, 'purring' voice is a pleasure to hear. She poured sunshine over the text, with good intonation throughout. Her voicings of the individual characters was not pronounced and could be a bit odd, but overall her reading was an added delight.

I am an infrequent reader of cozy mysteries. I was gifted my copy of Peril in Paradise by the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. Thank you so much. It was a gentle, light-hearted read which I very much enjoyed. At the end of the recording is a 'taster' of the next book in the series, Murder on Deck. I just might be tempted to take a second cruise with Will and Jerria.
