Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Nicole Edwards continues to bring the heat in this sixth Club Destiny novel - where erotic passion reigns.

Xander and Mercedes both know firsthand what it feels like to be in total control. The question is: Who really holds all the power?

Xander Boone has never had a problem going after what he wants. In fact he has built his life around doing just that. And he has a rather impressive track record. But Xander finds himself up against his biggest challenge yet. As fate would have it, Xander's greatest desire is a woman who has always been off limits to him. One he wants more than his next breath. Nothing about her is easy, but then again, things that are worth it never are. So when the perfect opportunity presents itself, Xander knows it's time to call in a favor.

Mercedes Bryant believes there is only one way to do something. She also knows what Xander wants isn't possible. But she's about to learn that you shouldn't always believe what you think you know.

And Xander is going to be the one to teach her that lesson.

An interesting twist to the BDSM craze

What made the experience of listening to Perception the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed Xander and Mercedes even though the story didn't pull me in as much as the other books in the series. Their interaction and their feelings for one another were very sweet, even when that wasn't the intention.
The narration was generally good and the narrator who put a voice to Mercedes did very well.

Beautiful

I always love Nicole Edwards books but this one is special, even though it is at least the third time I listen to it, it still moves me just the same. There is so much heart in each scene, the intensity, sincerity, longing, caring and sensuality between those two are out of this world. Love their story.

Dom to Sub for a Man?.Um NO! Book Made Me Angry!!

I normally like Nicole's books and although the BDSM lifestyle is not one I am fond of reading about I read this as a book in the series. That being said, (SPOILERS) to take a dominant woman and strip her of her personality so that she becomes submissive because some dominant man says so...for love is just BS. He says in the beginning her loves her but the only way he can is if she submits to him. Then the author portrays her as falling apart and groveling at his feet, why a dom woman would even agree to his proposal in the first place is ludacris. I understand the dom/submissive dynamic but submissives normally know they are submissives. To turn this definitely dom woman to a puddle for a man just makes me angry.

XXX

The plot of Perception centered on Xander and Mercedes, close friends for 9 years who were never sexually involved because they were both practicing Doms (BDSM crap).

Suddenly Xander wanted to dominant Mercedes, so he totally forgot that he was supposed to be her trustworthy friend and became a sexual predator. Not what a true friend, who actually cared about Mercedes would do.

Mercedes, a strong willed and successful businesswoman, instantly morphed into a pathetic wimp who accepted humiliation, physical & emotional abuse and degrading behavior after Xander gave her an orgasm. Really?? She's wasn't a naïve teenager...

Even more revolting than the sexual violence, was the way Xander used lies, deception and Mercedes's misplaced trust to get what he wanted, regardless of how much he hurt her. Xander then rationalized his despicable behavior because his needs and desires were more important. Such a great guy!

When Xander was also portrayed as a loving son who treated his mother with concern, kindess and respect, I was really puzzled. If only Xander had show similar respect and affection for poor Mercedes or any other female he encountered. Wonder why Xander's father didn't teach him to value and appreciate women.

While Nicole Edwards is a truly gifted writer - she could probably make Charles Manson seem like a good catch - I am so tired of books about weak women who accept less than they deserve. Xander was a self absorbed asshole, regardless of how sexy or rich. And Mercedes needed to choose better friends and lovers, not settle for a selfish jerk.
