Publisher's Summary
In the near future, a mysterious neurological disorder infects one in 50,000 people and spreads when the host is conscious and active. Cerebral nervorum quickly leads to the degradation of the individual’s motor functions and memory, until an inevitable death finds them days later.
Unable to afford gene editing therapy to tame this disease, Michael elects to take the route of being placed into a medically induced coma with the support of his fiancée Eve. This is the common treatment option for the lower and middle class of society to cope, until a cure is developed and viable for the general population.
Several years later, Michael and five other patients awaken to a world, where an alien force has nearly wiped out the inhabitants of Earth and flattened its cities. The group faces a deadly game of cat and mouse from these beings and, simultaneously, a race against the clock from the fatal disease eating away at their minds and bodies.
Michael and the patients learn there is an underground sanctuary where survivors are gathering a few miles away. What keeps Michael going is an audio journal Eve left for him during his hospital stay. It allows him to hear his love’s voice and gives glimpses of the past and events leading up to the invasion as he traverses the wasteland of the city in search of the human encampment.

Great plot with lots of twists
In the near future, the main character is put into a coma-like state to wait for a cure for a mysterious disease. He wakes after seven years to an alien-destroyed world and a quest to survive. There are lots of surprises waiting, both for him and for you.
The story was fun and the characters likable, but this is a plot that has more twists than a slinky. Don’t assume anything, be sure to suspend your disbelief, and you’ll make it out alive.
Coy Dugger’s narration was fine, although it was a straight read without accents or inflections. That made it a little difficult to know who was speaking at times. There were also places where no pauses between sentences kept the pace irregular; that might have been the editor’s fault, but it was annoying.
Apocalyptic themes, some violence, no sex, and no foul language.

Great Story! Emotions, suspense, twists, turns
The audiobook progressed the story quickly. I was always wanting to see what happened next! Just when you thought the story was over, you're gifted with a side story. Don't stop after the main story. The side story is totally worth completing!

Wow! Did not expect this!
Michael was diagnosed with a disease in which there was no known cure let alone what caused it. To live until a cure was found meant being placed into a deep coma. Everything he loved, everything he knew when he went to sleep was alive and well. Then seven years later he awakes to find everything he knew and loved was different; everything except for his roommates who were being woken up from their comatose state as well. Now the race is on to get to a safe place, find his family and the cure. Out there, in his world where nothing he knew remained and where beings from his wildest dreams hunt him, Michael takes off with voice recordings from his wife, food, a map and little else.
Chris Chau takes a terrifying story and adds a few twists that leave the listener thinking “Oh yeah, I knew he was going there” only to be left instead with one’s mouth hanging open declaring “I never saw that coming!” The characters are appropriately developed – some more than others in order of importance to the story. Barely longer than 6 hours, this story had the potential to be much longer, and actually, I hated hearing it end.
Coy Dugger was the narrator who performed the story with a smooth pace and a natural tone. He helped add to the suspense and never gave anything away through tone inflection or voice. I have not had the pleasure of hearing him perform before but I hope to again.
There were no issues with the quality or production of this audiobook.
I would highly recommend this book if you want something unique and different!

Truly enjoyed!
Interesting take on a version on a post apocalyptic world. I like the relationship between the MC and his fiancée. The twist threw me for a loop, and I loved it!
The narrator was great, and I didn’t find his reading too fast as some have mentioned.

Great story!
The story is fun and will keep you listening through an okay narration. The suspense and Final Twist are awesome!
The MCs background and story are interesting, a good portion of the story develops the character and world, then the Post apoc story begins with a big twist at the end. Some of it felt like it could flow better with a slower narration, but overall it doesnt detract from the story. Good Scifi Novel!

Not what I expected
I've always enjoyed post-apocalyptic stories and I thought this one looked interesting and it definitely was.
From the moment he caught the illness went into the medical induced coma and woke up years later I knew there would be a twist of some sort a real surprise in tale.
And there definitely was but not the twist I was expecting which was and then to top it all up there's another twist afterwards thar I did not see coming to make it even more interesting.
R
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Entertaining and unexpected plot twists
I thoroughly enjoyed this audio book and would recommend it to others.
The story started well and I was enjoying the premise of an apocalyptic fight for survival, I did feel there were a few unanswered questions but I overlooked these. I felt I was getting to know the characters, who were engaging and I brought into their stories. But as the story progressed the storyline got even better and all my unanswered questions were answered, with a big twist near the end unpeeling the layers to find the truth. There was good depth to the main characters and because of this I felt I went on a journey and a bit of an emotional roller coaster with them.
There was a lot packed into one book, making it quite fast paced and entertaining but unfortunately this also made the end feel a little rushed.
The narration overall was good but as the story is initially being told by Michael, the deep voice of what sounded like an older male didn't seem to suit the character but as it progressed I did get used to his voice. There were also a few times when the narration lacked emotion making it sound robotic. However I did not feel any of this greatly impacted on my listening experience.
I would certainly look out for and read other books by the author.

Entertaining
The premise for the storyline is intriguing and unique. Chris Chau has created a compelling world with well-rounded and engaging characters. The main character, Michael, Private First Class, is infected by an incurable neurological disease. The only treatment available to him is to be put into a medically induced coma. Years later, with five others, he wakes up in a post-apocalyptic world where aliens have invaded Earth. The plot literally picks up from there, it's fast-paced, exciting, action-packed and suspenseful with an unexpected twist at the end.
The narration by Coy Dugger was good but not excellent. At times, the reading was rushed, sounding as though he was racing through the pages. That being said, the audiobook as a whole was entertaining. I was given a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

Entertaining
It certainly was entertaining, even though it had a few plotholes and problems. The thing that didn't make sense to me, was that the main Character seemed to be pretty non-surprised about the state of the world he woke up in. I would think that even a serious military guy would be more distraught if the whole world would be a wasteland with few people left alive.

All is not as it seems
The story is set in the near future at a time when a neurological disorder infects one in 50,000 people. This disorder affects a person’s motor functions and memory leading to death days after contact. There is no cure. For the rich there is gene editing therapy the rest are placed into a medically induced coma. Michael is one such person. He marries his long-term sweetheart Eve hours before he is put into coma. Seven years later Michael awakes and together with other patients who are now awake they find that Earth has been invaded extra-terrestrials. Travelling by night and stopping at various hospitals along the way to find injections to keep their disorder dormant, they make their way to a sanctuary. The only woman in their group, Ellie and Michael become close but everything is not as it seems. The last part of this book is about Ellie and how she ended up with the group and beyond. The only gripe I have is that the narrator reads quite fast, he just gallops along. For anyone into Scifi it is an enjoyable listen.

good story line full of twists
although it's it's one book it has a full storyline in it unlike many other who go on for several books.
