Another Disappointing High Republic Entry

I am not a big High Republic fan due to the large number of inconsistent entries throughout the series. Some authors are better than others and there is much larger section of YA and youth orientated material than the legends series. Legends kept an adult focus, similar to the Andor show. We could use more of that in the books.

I had heard this was a great book with a thrilling ending. This book was actually a slog to get through. A YA romance, a cult centered on the Force and clueless Jedi. Why this era has the dumbest Jedi, I don't know. I wasn't interested or invested in the characters. I had the ending figured out in the first few chapters. I didn't find the last half to be thrilling either. The narrator was fantastic. There has been only one really great High Republic book and that was the adult Rising Storm. This era doesn't touch the amazingly rich universe of the KOTOR and SWTOR, Knights of the Old Republic and Old Republic eras. I also miss the legend authors like Timothy Zahn, James Luceno, Drew Karpyshyn, John Jackson Miller, Christie Golden, Paul S Kemp and more. I'm done with the High Republic.

I couldn’t stop listening

Any fans of the High republic will not be disappointed in this addition to the series. I finished this book in under 24 hours. The beautiful planet of Dalna and the Path of the open hand were intriguing while each new bread crumb revealing what lead to the future events of Starlight beacon gave me a deeper understanding of the story. I highly recommend this book and would love to re read it again in the future.

Why do they do this?

I enjoy Star Wars novels and I’ve enjoyed most of the high republic series…. It’s miserable to turn listen and be bombarded with random, relentless, in aiding to the story line, detailed lesbian love scenes in the hound adult novels… completely unrelated to the story and quite honestly ruins it. Trying to get my credit back for this one. Why is it always the young adult series that has these things in them?

The reader is very boring. It makes it hard to listen to. Hire mark Thompson again, that guy does a great job. This lady does not.

Great orgin story for the Nihil

If you were expecting a story about the jedi before the great disaster this will be a surprise. It's an orgin story for the Ro familey, again. The story explains alot of why the Nihil are the way they are and what the Ro familey goal is. It also sets up alot and can't wait for more stories from the HR era.

With every twist and turn you are compelled to question every move all while immersed in this fantasy brought to life through the wonderful storytelling of these authors. the performance and delivery of every word and every line keeps you hanging on the edge of your seat to wonder how the story plays out. great story great performance overall great book

Boring

By far the most boring star wars book out there. Don’t waste your time or money, there’s no real conflict or story arc. Nothing in the story or any of the characters have a Star Wars vibe/edge. It’s boring, nothing special, and is more or less a teenage girl’s relationship drama

No Consistency

I have read Star Wars books since the 90's and I'm always looking to the next one but the quality these past few years have really gone downhill. There is just no consistency anymore with the exception of the three new Thrawn books. One book will have great narration but bad writing. The next it could be the exact opposite or both are low quality. The narration for this book was perfect in my opinion but the writing was complete drivel! It's almost like the editors just don't care and they will pass anything through they think is halfway decent. The problem is that they clearly have low standards and that compounds the issue even more! They need a shakeup in their organization or to become self-aware how bad the products they are allowing to release are. The sad thing is that there will probably not be any positive change because the product is Star Wars and people will buy for that fact alone. I don't understand how these new books get such good ratings. Is it because they are a younger generation and they have not read the far superior books that were released years ago? I will admit there were a few duds but nothing to the scale that's being released currently. Credit unfortunately refunded.

Boring and Contrived

It started off decent enough. If only it actually followed that first chapter because very quickly it became about an awkward romance, as most of the HR books seem to focus on. For real, nothing happens and the end is nonsensical, with all of the main characters completely changing their personalities without much reason. I realized that maybe it was just the narration. The narrator can do 2 voices, both of which sound whimsical or teeny bopper. For real, it's hard to tell a handful of characters apart. But as it went on, I realized that nothing was actually happening. They discuss some of the mysterious plot points from HR phase 1, but don't actually offer anything new. It's all seemingly leading somewhere until you realize it's just a mystery box never meant to be opened. Overall, I didn't hate it, but I'll def never read it again.

High Republic mid.

Not very interesting. Some of my least favorite characters in The High Republic era. Definitely made for middle school kids and doesn’t go beyond that.

surprisingly good

Great book. It was bit slow to start and it is not advertised very well as to where this is on the HR time-line. I thought it was after Fallen Star and ot took a few chapter's before I realized this was set before the 1st HR book- Light of the Jedi. It gives a back ground of where the Nihil come from and establishes where some of the hate for the Jedi stems. Excited to see where this goes and how it ties into the books set after Fallen Star. This is a must read.
