Publisher's Summary
With unparalleled suspense and her trademark explosive twists, #1 New York Times bestselling author Catherine Coulter delves into the terrifying mind of an escaped mental patient obsessed with revenge in this next installment of her riveting FBI series. When he fails to kidnap five-year-old Sean Savich, agents Sherlock and Savich know they’re in his crosshairs and must find him before he continues with his ‘kill’ list.
Chief Ty Christie of Willicott, Maryland, witnesses a murder at dawn from the deck of her cottage on Lake Massey. When dragging the lake, not only do the divers find the murder victim, they also discover dozens of bones. Even more shocking is the identification of a unique belt buckle found among the bones. Working together with Chief Christie, Savich and Sherlock soon discover a frightening connection between the bones and the escaped psychopath.
Paradox is a chilling mix of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, old secrets that refuse to stay buried, and ruthless greed that keep Savich and Sherlock and Chief Ty Christie working at high speed to uncover the truth before their own bones end up at the bottom on the lake.
Don’t miss Paradox, the twenty-second FBI thriller.

I love to read about Sherlock and Dillon. The way Ms Coulter has always included them in short passages throughout the series is good but this one was about them as a focus. Including two murders to be solved was brilliantly done. BRAVO!

A grain of salt...or a tablespoon
I've apparently stopped letting it bother me that the FBI agents portrayed here and in the Brit in the FBI series prefer vigilante justice. I like the stories and I like the characters. If police and agents really treated unconvicted criminals with this little concern for their rights I'd be very upset but this is fiction and since I keep buying them I guess I've decided to let abuse of power slide. I'm not proud of that because I see lack of concern for people individuals consider less than they themselves are due to race, religion, etc as a growing problem in our society and it should bother me in fiction as well. I can't justify that but I enjoy the plot lines and twists Coulter contrives a great deal.
*Hope that this doesn't constitute a spoiler*
I like clear cut bad guys and good guys and that's what I got here, even if some of the "good guys" were (technically) criminals.

Not my favorite FBI Thriller
I have listened to many of Catherine Coulter's books but this one was difficult to listen to. I think it was the characters and the voices that were grating to listen to. Sorry, but I would recommend people to pass on listening to this one. Perhaps it is just a better book to read.

Paradox
I love a good Dillon and Sherlock mystery! This one did not disappoint. My only problem was with the way the female narrator spoke....she did a good job....but the whole time I was listening to her, I could envision her mouth in a pucker. It was distracting to me. Other than that, great job!

So-so story with grating narration
Novel reads like a mashup of three stories, two of which are predictable police procedurals and the third a stereotypical portrait of small communities and a developmentally disabled young woman. Not bad for in-flight entertainment, but it won’t win any awards. The various voices of the narrators range from forgettable to annoying, especially the females.

First and Last Time for Coulter
First off, the woman sounds like Ellen DeGeneres reading the lines and it's hard to get by. The male voice is better but with three string make characters it can be hard to imagine scenarios without stopping to make sure it's the character you thought it was. Aside from that the audio was good and managed well.
The book itself was terrible. The characters are thin outlines and not likeable. There is no evolution or growth in any of them. The plot is basic and the turns are predictable if not absent all together. The writing is vanilla with vanilla wafers. The banter is so bad that I would let my office mates get a laugh once in awhile by unplugging my headphones.
Do yourself a favor and skip it.
