got to love shapeshifters

"I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review."

Found this book highly entertaining, logic of difference of shapeshifters and werewolves well explained. That covered, loved the characters, they were very real with very real problems, worries and happiness. Bullying episodes felt real, I remember those as a kid. Lots of very real situations of many types in the book, and all were heart tuggingly real.

The bad guy found very real, very bad and true to how I view badness, totally out for himself -- spoiler alert, the good guys, or most of them win finally. Loved the story, listening to it again.

Narrator was an excellent choice for this book, pulled you into the story.

Entertaining YA Shifter Story

P.A.W.S is the first book in the P.A.W.S Saga series by Debbie Manber Kupfer. It follows Miri as she learns the secret of the silver cat charm given to her by her omama, and which thrusts her into a secret world she never knew existed. She learns secrets about her family history - some good and some bad, meets many new friends, and learns to trust herself and her power.

This is a different take on shifters and their origins - this and their schooling reminds me some of the Harry Potter series. The bad guy has no redeeming qualities at all, and he deserves what happens to him, though I find it hard to believe that it would happen the way it did. All the characters were well-rounded and have their own histories.

I've been listening to a lot of audio books recently, and I think this performance by Priscilla Finch could have been better. Because there wasn't really any change in tone, dialect or expression to indicate the different characters, it was sometimes hard to determine who was speaking. This is definitely a young-adult book. It contains themes sympathetic to those in the teen years and nothing risqué or that would cause nightmares. I left those years behind a long time ago, so I didn't really connect with the characters as much as I think I would have back then. As such, I don't recommend this for adults, but I think that YA age range would like it.

A fun read!

**** SPOILER ALERT ****
AUDIBLE EDITION:
"P.A.W.S.: ( The P.A.W.S. Saga Book 1 )" is my introduction to Kupfer's writing.  I'm really glad of it. The author richly builds the world of P.A.W.S. and develops the characters of the P.A.W.S. world..  I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining book.  The story of how Miri comes to terms with her inheritance and her parents is fascinating.
Q:  Will Miri find out what her gift is and how to control it?
A:  Grab this page turner, read it, and find out!
Above is my review of the actual book, below is my review of the narrator and audio production of the Audible version of the book.
Ms.Finch does a superb job of bringing Miri and the rest of the P.A.W.S. characters to life. For the most part, Ms. Finch's audio production work is top notch.
I look forward to hearing more of her narration in future.
I would recommend this book, in whatever format that you prefer.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.

About Average Young Adult Fantasy Story

I was given this book free from the author on StoryOrigin in exchange for an honest review.

This book was your average run on the mill young-adult fantasy type story. There is nothing about this story that will ever become a cult fandom. The writing is mediocre at best. The ending was pretty anti-climactic.

With all that said, I still am giving it a 3-star review because I became invested in Miri and her friends' lives. Since I was also given 2 more of her books for honest reviews, I will continue with Miri's story and see if the writing gets better.

I will state that the book that I was given was an audiobook. The narrator did a pretty decent job. She was a bit too monotone for my liking, but it wasn't the worst I've listened to.

Shapeshifters good and bad

This is a story of shapeshifting Good conquering charming but greedy and power-hungry (and also shapeshifting) Evil. This story was well-written for teens, with lots of suspense and excitement, and a little magic. The character development was appropriate for the age group, with depth enough but not too much. The narration was pretty good, but sometimes didn’t flow naturally. This will get better with practice.

Definitely worth the read

I offered to review this audiobook because I am such an an avid reader but also almost exclusively audio due to my schedule. Because of this, and the fact that a bad narrator can destroy a great series, I can be very critical of narrators. Especially when books have a single narrator required to speak with different voices for multiple characters. Most cannot do it without having some errors where they use the wrong 'voice' for the wrong character. Priscilla Finch does a great job in narrating all voices this book. It was a very enjoyable listen and I didn't have any issues distinguishing between characters.

As to the story, I am not one to give a lot of specific story details since I feel you should read the story for that. However, I will say that it is book 1 in a new twist on the were/shapeshifter series where some of the characters have additional magic. As with most such books, there is an underlying good versus evil, along with great character development and a story line that included several twists I didn't see coming. You won't be disappointed if you give it a try!

A Fantastic Book

WOW! This book is amazing, although I feel it may be for an older audience as to the reference of eating people. This storyline grabs at you and holds your interest till the end of the book. The characters are believable and interesting with shape shifter capabilities. You have Mini abandoned by her Aunt ans uncle at a boarding school after her grandmother died. She runs away and joins a secret sociery but she feels she just doesn't fit in. She is well received and encouraged to grow. The cat amulet her grandmother gave her helps her. The story continues to be built around her and the amulet. The author has built an amazing story I have to say kept my interest. The Narrator does a great job. I highly recommend this book.

Enjoyable

I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this story even though I usually listen to audiobooks aimed at adult audiences.

This audiobook is my favourite genre, the plot was good with a few twists and the narrator brought it all together.
