Publisher's Summary

Just out of an 18-year marriage, the last thing Jackson expects the first time he visits a gay bar is for a sexy, drunk, 26-year-old twink to mistakenly climb into his Jeep. The twink part he's good with, the drunk part...not so much. As far as Jackson's concerned, the boy should come with a warning label. But Derek is not as flighty as Jackson thought...he's actually pretty incredible. Getting to know the wild, funny man is a breath of fresh air. And when Derek calls him daddy? Christ, he never thought something like that would feel so right.

Derek has serious daddy issues, and his name is Jackson. He's stubborn and controlling...and ever since Derek woke up in the silver fox's condo, he can't get Jackson out of his mind. Maybe because no matter how many times he throws himself at him, Jackson doesn't take the bait. And maybe because Jackson is the one person who sees him for who he really is. But Derek loves a challenge, and he's eager to rock Jackson's world.

Jackson isn't interested in a meaningless hookup. He wants the real Derek, not just the sassy jokester everyone else sees. But it's not easy for Derek to open up. He feels much safer guarding his heart. And Jackson needs to figure out the balance between living for himself and the mountain of responsibilities weighing him down. Derek and Jackson must find the common ground between hookup and commitment - if they can't own their issues and work together to overcome their faults, they could smother the flame between them that's just beginning to ignite.

Oddly, a comfort read

On my first read/listen thru the series, I think I would have rated this installment a 4. Because unlike what one might expect from Derek, if one has read the previous books in the series, it takes them most of the book before they get their groove on. This was frustrating on the first read, but does actually make sense, and feels more correct on the re-read. And I felt it was worth the wait.

I’ve come back to the book more than once. The opening meet-cute is sooooo cute and Derek’s dialogue is so snappy, that it’s fun to hear it again. Narrator Michael Pauley does a really great job on this one. (He *makes* the “blah blah” sequence.)

Their experience levels are kind of a twist on common themes; I tend to run across more books where the top has had way more partners than the bottom. Here, Jackson has experience, but not quantity. It’s refreshing.

I like how they brought out the best in each other (even if that freaked Jackson out). I liked that both characters had scenes with their friends/support network outside of scenes with each other. Tiny quibble-I was a little shocked to hear how Jackson thought was such great pals with Zane when his actions don’t show them spending lots of time talking or hanging out compared to time & thoughts with his ex & Frankie. But too much more Zane probably would have dragged and they do have a funny condom scene showing they have a high level of trust and comfort.

I’m not a huge fan of Daddy kink and Jackson needing to reason through it made it not creepy & rather fun. Not sure if bigger fans of the kink would find that journey tedious or refreshing but for the casually interested, I think it works well.

I recommend the whole Metropolis series, and Owning it in particular.

Derek! My favorite, I loved his story!

Derek is my favorite character from the Metropolis series, and he and Daddy Jackson were just smokin' hot perfection together. Michael Pauley did a wonderful job with the characters in this series! Perfect voices for Derek and Jackson!

If you haven't read the Metropolis series, what are you waiting for?! Each book is better than the last, and you'll fall in love with this group of sexy guys! While each story could stand on its own, I think you'd enjoy them more reading in order since they all appear in each others' stories.

Michael Pauley nailed Owning It!! ;)

I absolutely loved Owning It when I read the book and the narration was on point as well. The narrator, Michael Pauley, brought Derek and Jackson to life. It was perfect.

BEST ONE YET!!!

SQUEEEE!!!!!!

O.M.GOSH I LOVED DEREK'S STORY SO HARD!!!!!

The bestvreads are the ones with so much emotion. Derek hides behind a loud sassy all out persona, but Daddy Jackson breaks through all the BS and we get to meet the best person ever.
Thank you for such amazing characters!

I love METROPOLIS 💘

OK, and now, what did Jackson get for a tattoo 🤔

An enjoyable narration - especially Derek's

It's a shame that the last paragraph in chapter one wasn't included. There were another couple of minor things but it didn't spoil the overall narration.

Had potential but didn’t quite deliver!

I was so looking forward to this. 26-yo Derek is a classic gay twink stereotype: hilariously sharp and sassy, he churns through men and pretends to be superficial - seemingly nothing is serious and no one can hurt him. 37-yo Jackson has an ex-wife, a teenage son, and an ageing mother, he takes everything seriously. When Jackson initiates a friendship, it confuses Derek: if Jackson doesn’t want sex, what’s the point? But Jackson sees beyond Derek’s façade and he wants to get to know the real person. Great premise for a slow-burn age-gap romance, but ... I think the daddy / boy names distracted because there wasn’t an actual power / obedience dynamic, they were really just pet names with no kink, so why use such loaded terms? I had expected a role-reverse teaching dynamic: experienced young twink teaches inexperienced older man but that didn’t happen either. I felt there was so much repetition that there wasn’t time to focus on Derek or Jackson’s intriguing backstories - both were influenced by parental issues that were skimmed over. Michael Dean / Pauley narrated the audio with his usual panache.
