Publisher's Summary

As a young schoolboy, David Essex dreamed of becoming a professional footballer and was signed up by his beloved West Ham United. But as a teenager, he developed a passion for music, which set him on a very different path, and ultimately led to superstardom. It wasn't, however, an easy start. Scraping a living on the edges of show business was a hard slog, and he endured many disappointments.

Then, aged 23, he went along to an audition for a new musical called Godspell and won the role (Jesus) that shot him to fame. Within a year he was starring in a smash hit film, That'll Be the Day, and had written and recorded his first number-one single, 'Rock On'. It was the start of Essex Mania, and a long journey of undreamt of adventure.

From Godspell to EastEnders, it's been an amazing life. And here is David's full incredible story - in his own words.

Excellent book

Really enjoyed this book, David Essex has an easy to listen to reading voice which conveys the ups and downs in his life in a conversational and informative manner. It is well written and I would recommend it to his many fans who have followed his varied carreer throughout the years.

Brilliant Until the Last 2 Chapters

What a great, GREAT biography until the end. David , like me you came up the hard way, WestHam through and through. Why, OH , why spend so much time of a great read talking about "East Enders". !!!??

at the end ?? You could have easily continued to give a review on' Coronation Street, Home and Away, Neighbours etc.......etc

Brilliant start........poor finish

What a dream

If your a big fan of David Essex what more could you want, his life story, told in his own voice, I'm listening to him as I write this, he is taking me back to the lovable lad that I fell for many years ago. If your a fan you will not be disappointed. This is my first audible book but when I found out it is his voice I had to buy it. If I could I'd have rated it a hundred + stars, but 5 stars will have to do.

Good easy listen following him haring around the world!

Well, I don't envy his families having to put up with his incessant touring and travel - plus solo exploration travel sabbaticals and plus sharing him with the public. He must have been financially well off enough to have been able to stay at home a bit more over the years and perhaps his relationships might have lasted. A good insight into this workaholic's life which I hope made him happy - it certainly made me glad for my simple life - an additional bonus on hearing the book.

Best autobiography ever

Ive been through countless books of different genres and enjoyed many, disliked some and loved others. Of all the books, this is by far my favourite. I grow up listening to David essex and now I had a chance of following him through his life. I listened with great interest, smiled, laughed and blimey, even cried as he took me through his journey. Being an East End bloke myself, I totally related to a lot of his past in the East end. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Took me back to my youth. Really great to move through David's life so far journey.

I saw David at Blazers night club in Windsor...he was great you just felt he was singing every song just to you.

I'm so glad about his many other successes.
